how can you tell if an egg is still good?

put it in pan of water...if it floats it's bad.

Get a pot of water and drop the egg into it. If it sinks, the egg is good. If it floats the egg is rotten. I learnt that in Home Economics, I hope it helps. Also.. if your eggs are store bought, they usually have a little use by date stamped on each individual egg.

Put it in some water deeper than the egg, if it floats to the top it isn't good, if it semi floates then still good for like cakes and such, and doesn't float is great for egg salad etcetc

inside the egg, getting older, air is taking the place of the liquids......as more old the egg is as more it will float in water.....one day it stays orizzontal, a week it's takng the "head" up a little, 3 weeks it stands....and on and on.

I do know that fresh eggs last 30 days max in the fridge. If you crack it open and it is thick and not runny like normal, it is probably old.

When the whites of the egg becomes really runny, no form. Time to throw away.

If the egg is more than 6 mo. old it is no good.. other than that crack it and see if it stinks; the yolk should "stand up" over the white.

Eggs should be heavier than water, toss out the floaters

If an uncooked egg floats in water, it is not good. If it sinks, it is still good.

if the shell is not cracked, it smells ok and it has been refrigerated it should be fine. I would check the expiration date on the carton too and not use them to long after that.
