I am a licensed funeral director in the states of Maryland and
Pennsylvania. It is an extremely rewarding career. I don't know if there are any good websites to look at, but definitely try to contact a local funeral home, ask them to sit down with you and give you a tour. It would take all day to tell you about my job, so that is your best bet! I wish you the very best of luck in a wonderful career! God bless!

Several good schools out there...depending on where you live.

Mt Ida College in Boston, Kansas City Kansas Community College, There's one in Georgia and one in Texas.

Go to your local funeral home and ask them if they have a trade magazine that you can have. The colleges advertise in these journals.

If I'm correct, you can go to www.funeral.com. It's a bulletin board for the funeral service.

Also, depending on where you live, you may have to obtain both a funeral director's license AND an embalmer's license.

I preferred embalming. When I was a mortician, it was in Connecticut. If you held an embalmer's license, you were also a funeral director. If you held a funeral director's license, you could NOT embalm.

Contact your local funeral home. They'll be more than happy to help you out. They might even arrange an internship for you or summer work to help pay your college fees.
