I really want a dog especially after I heard that some shelters have to put animals to sleep if there are too many animals. I have 3 fish but one is missing an eye (long story). The only way I can get a dog if me and my brother get straght a's for 3 years. I'll be a geek till I'm in Highschool ( I'm getting braces in January and I already have glasses and im a teensy bit obese) well I get a rabbit if I get straight a's for 1 year.

Getting a shelter dog is a good thing.
But actually paying/buying a fullblood is good too.

The cavete about shelter dogs is that despite the paperwork, there are often problems that the shelter will not know about.

With a purchased pup, you have upfront guarantees and will have a higher quality pet and they will often be worth more.

Each of my purebreeds are individually worth more than all of my mutts combined.
With my oldest (12 years) still worth $300.
My best purebeed is 5 years old and is worth twice what I paid (paid $400 - she is daughter of a world champion pomerianian).

But having a mutt or a shelter pet is good too.
Ive had both and even currently own both..
I keep the purebreeds with me at home, and the muts I have are with my mom and my dad (divorced).

For me also, I dont bother with large dogs as I dont have space for big dogs, but do have space for small dogs.

tough situation.

how i got a dog is: i really hated kindergarten. i cried every single day and one day (as i was walking my neighbours dog) i realized i wanted a dog so bad. So i talked to my parents about getting a dog and told them that i would be much happier and i would have a loyal friend!
And they got me a dog and its still with me.

Also tell them exactly what you wrote in the question "some animals have to be put to sleep for no reason in shelters. If we have the room and money we should adopt one of the animals since they have no future and we can give it to them"
Also you should say "I'll walk my dog everyday so i can fix my obese problem".

im not trying to be cruel or anything but that's just how it is. If you can't walk your dog at least once a day. You don't deserve one.

A dog has to be something that the whole family wants. Unfortunately, a lot of those dogs that you heard about are in shelters because the kids wanted a dog, the parents caved in, but then the parents realized that the dog is a big responsibility for everyone in the house, not just the kid who wanted the dog. So the dog goes to the pound. If everyone in your family wants a dog, then get a dog. If it's just you and your brother, but not your parents, please don't do it.

We got our dog from the pound because originally a family had gotten him as a puppy after the kids really wanted one and promised to care for him. But dogs are expensive and take a lot of care from everyone in the house, and the parents really never wanted him in the first place. So they took him to the pound. We adopted him one day before he was going to be put to sleep.

When you get a little older, you can really help dogs who are in shelters by volunteering at your local shelter, walking the dogs that are living there, caring for them, helping to train them and get them ready for their new homes. Also, talk to all your friends about getting dogs spayed and neutered.

Don't feel bad, trust me, you won't be a nerd. I went through the same thing. I had braces from the end of elem. school to the summer of eigth grade(becoming a freshmen). During that time I also had to keep my grades up, and you know the funny part? All of the people who teased me about being nerdy in middle school aren't doing so well now. Don't let the judgement of others affect the things you want to do.

as far as you wanting to lose weight don't worry about it, it'll all come off as you get older! trust me ;D

Work as hard as you can. If you have friends that care about you you shouldn't be afraid of what other people think. I would go for it. Get straight A's and you will be happy the day you bring that dog home. And you will be happy once you get out of school because you will be very successful in your career. Good Luck

Its admirable that you want to help those dogs in need. But, its alot of responsibility. But, its also worth it. Getting the good grades is worth it, too. If and when you get a dog, make sure you get some training from somewhere to help you train your new dog. If it will take you 3 yrs before you get a dog, then use that time to learn everything you can about them and their behaviors and how to care for them. Its a real nice thing that you are trying to do.

Just visit your nearest dog pound. You'll be amazed at the quality of some dogs available there. They will also help you get started right, with proper shots, neutering if needed, etc. The cost is quite reasonable considering the pet you acquire.

Concentrate on taking care of yourself, and worry about being responsible for something else down the road a bit.

If you really want a dog, then try as hard as you can. If anything, you will be on your way to a great future with grades like that!
