Shepherd's pie! I live alone at present so my 'family' are my work colleagues on night shifts. We take turns to cook a meal and bring it into work so share. Everyone loves this!

Brown 500g minced beef with 2 chopped onions and 2 cloves of crushed garlic. Make up 1 1/2 pts beef stock using 2 cubes, add to mince. Throw in 3-4 chopped carrots, and 1 teaspoon mixed herbs. Also a good splash worcestershire sauce. Cook on a rolling boil for however long it takes for the carrots to be soft. Try not to add to much liquid, you want it fairly dry once cooked.

Put mixture in a rectangular dish, top with mashed potato. Sprinkle with a massive handful of strong grated cheddar, then with fresh breadcrumbs. Put in the oven, (C*** with temperatures!) - say, moderate to high, until spuds and crumbs are golden and crispy.

I serve at work with a tin or two of mushy peas, and gravy made from granules. I've never heard a bad word said about it, and I know one girl in particular who requests the same nights as me just for the pie! Enjoy!

I love stews, or one pot meals where meat and vegetables are braised in gravy and wine with herbs and spices, served with either bread or mashed potatoes and steamed asparagus. I also love to make soups and salad, I like the times where we put all the dishes on the table and everyone helps themselves to what they want and we talk about our day, it's good family time.

The Smith Family pie. They were a nice little family, but tasted even better. *Makes Hannibal Lecter noises*

Seriously, roast beef, yorkshire pudding and all the trimmings with all four generations of the family present.
