The overdrive button turns on and off the overdrive of your 4 speed automatic transmission. The 95 ford mustang has a 4 speed transmission with 4 different gear ratios. The 3 gear ratio or 3 gear is 1:1 (direct drive) which means that the engine rpm’s is the exact same rpm as the drive shaft. 4th gear also know as overdrive is a .70:1 that the engine is turning .70 times and the drive shaft is turning 1 time. (the drive shaft is turning faster than the engine) The overdrive button lets you select if you want the car to be able to shift in to overdrive or not. For the most part leave the overdrive on, the car will take care of its self.

The overdrive button will keep the car in 3rd gear if it is off. Overdrive is a 4 gear for fuel milage. I would only put the overdrive off is if I am driving in a road full of curves, when my speed goes from 30 to 50, then drops again.

The overdrive is simply an additional gear ratio that will allow the vehicle to move down the road at an acceptable speed while reducing the RPMs of the engine. It usually kicks in once the vehicle has reached a certain speed. Just turn it on and leave it on unless you are doing something that requires a higher reving engine. (I can't think of too many reasons to need that in a Mustang)

Most automatic transmissions have 4 gears. By moving the shifter you can limit it to first, second, and drive (third) gears. Overdrive simply refers to the fourth gear, where the gear ratio is above 1:1. By limiting gears you can keep RPM's higher for more power on hills and what not, but for best fuel economy it is best to allow the transmission to shift up when power is not needed (so leave overdrive on).

Just like every one said, but my father said is to just leave it on, but the only really big difference is that when on overdrive the braking is a little weaker due to the fact the the gears are set a little different; on a higher gear than a lower gear which helps it to stop better and stronger, but if you want I would just leave it on. I have always left my on and had not problems. Good luck

Its like #1 answer said, also can be used to take off overdrive, for a bit more power when passing, etc.

it turns the electronic overdrive on and off. if you are driving in the mountains, stop and go traffic,or towing a trailer you should turn it off. out on the open highway turn it back on as it will help improve the fuel mileage

that's extremely a dramatic assertion! regrettably (and larger in all probability than no longer), she will be able to no longer stick with her be conscious. She's likely merely embarrassed - a established hormone precipitated symptom of being an adolescent. do not take this in my view - maximum childrens (fairly women human beings) are embarrassed of each thing their dad and mom might want to like. i recognize it truly is a attempting time for you both, yet she'll boost out of it plenty merely before you imagine - provide it a three hundred and sixty 5 days or 2.
