Yes. God forgives the moment we ask for forgiveness, but we tend to carry that guilt around with us indefinitely. We feel so bad about the results of what we did that we cannot stop mentally punishing ourselves. Letting go is the only way to heal and learn and move forward. Cut it loose.

We most definately can, yes indeed. But how can we though ? Well, you need something to believe in I suppose, that might help. It must be pretty bad whatever you are talking about, in order to post this type of question . Any way it does take a little bit of time to forgive yourself totally or myself too, and that is our ultimate goal in all of this forgiveness stuff, isnt it.
The first thing is to understand that God will forgive anything, and I understand that this statement doesn't always make sense, but it is true. And when we understand this then we can begin to view ourselves as God see's us and things start to change in a wild way my friend.

Sure. That's the great thing about being human. We can feel bad emotions, but can help ourselves to feel better through forgiveness and understanding. No matter how big the mess up, you can almost always seek comfort in forgiveness.

Patrick, I am going to assume you have a Christian background. The best answer I can give you is Jesus died for all your sins. Not just a select few, or those you have already done. There is a big difference between spirituality and religion. Religion sets a code of behevior that the Bible does not. I sugges strongly that you go to www.caniknow.com and read the message there. It will help you understand a lot more than I have explained.

I believe that you can forgive yourself, but you can never forget the things that you did. Only time will mend that guilt that one feels. Years can go by and you may still have flashbacks of what you did; you may even experience that strong guilt again. I guess this is meant to serve as a purpose...to remind you.

Well I guess it all depends on what you did. You have to forgive yourself before you can expect others to forgive you.

You are the only one on this planet that it matters all that much to and if you can't forgive yourself nobody can.
