We just got Dish network. Their people say I have to watch the same program I am taping. This is not acceptable and I know there MUST be another way to do this. Help! Please!

Thats one of the reasons I went back to cable. Without a second box you cant! Maybe (just maybe) you can if you get one with a DVR. I know they offer them now, but I dont know all of the details or anything.

A dual tuner (like Dish's 322, 522, or 625) is required to perform this function. You could also use two separate tuners to do it, however, you would have to pay the $5 extra each month that Dish charges for another tuner. If you had a dual tuner in that room, and you plugged it into a working phone jack, dish will waive the $5 charge each month for the dual capability of the tuner. That would allow you to record one thing on your vcr, while watching something different on your television. It will also give you the capability to perform picture and picture (watch two different things on one tv at the same time) if your TV is capable of doing that.

p.s. you don't need any splitters either. Satellites don't use splitters the way that land based cable operations do.

You can do it if you have two receivers set up. You can watch the show on one and record with your VCR on the other. If you want to go high tech and be able to do both on one you are going to have to spend the money and get TiVo!

if you have only 1 satilite box yup you watch what you record.

if you got 2 satilite receiver like I have then one can go to the recorder and the other to the TV and different movies.

extra receiver is like $6.00 more a month
