Luke 18:22 Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.
18:23 And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich.
18:24 And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
18:25 For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

Oh, they'll try and negotiate that one away.

"Oh no, that passage is figurative, but this one is literal"

Take it all, or take none at all.

Pah.

Like many a person on here trying to belittle the faith of Christians, you don't expect a serious answer; but here's one for you anyway.

A ruler asked the question. Jesus was being tested constantly by such people to see if he would contradict Mosaic law. They wanted a physical kingdom and not a spiritual one which is what Jesus was building. They'd ask questions to trip him up, much like you are doing here, and bring charges against him either under Mosaic law or under Roman law for treason. Jesus's answer tested the faith of this man.

In the beginning days of the church, Christians often left their homes to follow an apostle and learn more about their new found faith and salvation. Or they banded together to worship and protect themselves from prosecution. They sold all they had to support those who banded together and to assist the poor because all shared alike in their assembly.

Today, this is not necessary in most parts of the world. People in America can freely worship. It may still be the case in some foreign countries and some Christians there may still sell all they have to join a band of believers.

You've probably stopped reading by now, but this wasn't for you anyway because you really weren't interested in an intelligent and factual answer. God bless you anyway for giving me a chance to educate someone else.

Hello dear!
I will recall what Napoleon said: I'm surrounded by priests who harp on about their authority not being of this world, but who, all the same, help themselves to and greedily grasp anything that comes within reach!
Further, what I support: Christians, especially the organized church has nothing to do with Christ!
