Well, I'm on Estrostep right now, I have been on it for 1 year. It costs me about $45 for one month of pills. It's a little expensive but I haven't had any problems and it's worked great. My periods last usually 3 days, sometimes 4. They are not heavy at all, they are actually pretty light. I can pinpoint when i'm going to have my period , usually right down to the exact day.
However, I'm considering switching to Seasonale. With that, you only have a period 4 times in a year.
The best thing to do to find out about all the different kinds and what is different about them is to search the net and also talk with your doctor. That is your best and safest bet.

Ask your doctor. It depends on a lot of factors. If you weigh more than 150 lbs. you shouldn't be on a low dose pill. If you are a hormonal monster (everyone around you cringes when you are PMSing), you should be on a pill that has a constant dosage all month (or for the 3 weeks that it is active). If like to keep your body similar to its natural cycle, consider a pill with different hormones each week (like Ortho Tri Cyclen). You may need to play around with a few kinds to see what works best. I am much more hormonal (ie bitchy) on regular dosage pills, but my acne clears up. My mom can only use a pill for 8 months before it stops working. You and your doctor can have fun finding on that works well. Finally, you should go on the pill that your insurance covers. If you can get it for free/cheap-- why not?
Good Luck!

I would research a few different forms of b/c, and if you do choose the pill double up methods, use the pill and spermicides or a condom, follow the instructions to the T with pills too..i don't trust them as you may have figured out. I have IUD but I've had children and I don't know if you can get one if you haven't. Look into maybe Nuva Ring, the patch, or one of the newer shots. Research and education...the keys to a good decision!

Talk to your doctor. They are the ones who probably know a little about a lot of them. If you have a normal cycle with no real problems...almost anything will be good for you. If you have a few problems...different pills will help with different issues. I personally have been on Orthotricyclin (spelling?) for years and have had no problems.

It really depends on your health. Do you smoke? Do you have any health problems? If you don't have anything like that going on, any of them will work. I've been taking Ortho Tricyclene for years, and they work fine for me. But talk to you doctor, based on your medical history, she'll recommend a good one.

I suggest you go and see your GP because there are different contraceptive pills for different people.

Whatever you do...make sure you take them everyday at the same time. It's easy to forget, then OOPS!
