Only happened 3 times in the last 3 wks. Everytime lasts about 30 secs, he's wheezing kinda, I dont' know how to describe it. he's 4 month old. I took him to vet like 2 wks ago, the vet said he's healthy. I wonder if it's asthma(breathing problems) or hairball...

thanks everyone, I phoned my vet,the girl in the office said he's probably just catching his breathe after playing(but i don't really buy that) I think it's probably hairball, i'll give him a bit of treatment see how things go.

I don't want to alarm you it may be nothing. But definately keep an eye on it and see if it persist. It is possible it could be a feline respitory disease.

This could have to do with the cats digestive tract as well. There could possibly be a compaction, hard to say.

Is the cat vomiting? Does he cough up the hair ball? If you are feeding dry food you would do well to switch to wet food with higher meat content and much more water. Cats don't drink alot so the more water they get in food the better.

If it is a problem with coughing up the hair ball you can try putting a little vaseline or petro malt on the cats paws, they will ingest that when bathing and it will help with the hairballs.

I think that might be a hairball. My kitten did the same thing and out came a nasty looking hairball. My vet gave me something called Laxatone a lubricant for the elimination and prevention of hair balls simply place a small amount on the nose or paws then they will lick it. It works...I give it to my cats all the time and havent had anymore problems. Good Luck ;)

Could your kitty be coughing? My cat does the same thing you describe, but only about once a month. It's scary because you feel helpless when it's happening. My cat has made that wheeze/cough/mystery sound occasionally for 16 years and still runs around like a kitten! In other words, if the vet can't find a problem, and you think the sound could possibly be coughing, assume he's healthy and just has an itch in his throat.

Hairball

Chances are it's just hairballs. Happens all the time with my furry little bleeders. Specially as the vet said it's healthy.

Who do you believe: A fully qualified vet, or a bunch of strangers on the internet?

An asthma episode looks almost exactly like hacking up a hariball, but nothing ever comes out. These cats will look almost perfectly normal on physical examination, except for a dry inspiratory wheeze and abdominal breathing apparent at rest - a subtle sign you have to be specifically looking for.

I think your cat has hairballs. You may need to change his food. This seems to help. Buy something like Science Diet. My cats never get them.

It may be purring , when the cat is happy the only way to express it is by a signal sent from the brain into the breathing system which causes that wheezing sound , it shows its happy.

my cat has done that a few days ago, in fact it may be a hairball or just some food that won't go down his throat.

hairball. my cat does that, but it eventually goes back down her throat. that also happens to your cat. try getting a hairball medicine, i had some that was malt flavored and my cat really liked it.
