Wash your hands very carefully before and after you touch any pup. You can touch them, but bear in mind that you might be bothering momma. If she seems distressed by your messing with her pups, then give her some quiet time with them. She is probably tired and testy after all she has been through and all she will go through to nurse them.
Also remember that the babies need to be with their mother for warmth and food. You can't provide either of those as well as momma can. Keep your handling them to a minimum.
Before you start spending too much time interfering with momma, go the library and get a good book on raising a litter of puppies. It will give you better advice this forum, and will reassure you as to what you can and should be doing for the babies.

Yes, you can hold them right away. YOu can help mom dry them off with a towel. Touch them and make sure they are ok. Handle them every day. They need human contact. Just don't handle for too long each time. They can get cold very quickly.

My black lab mix had puppies 6 weeks ago today. The day they were born I handeled them a bit and mom didn't seem to mind. Just watch mom and see how she reacts. Don't hold them alot and you should be fine. Good luck with the puppies and I know they must be awfully cute!!!

You are if the mother lets you. But don't try to move them too far from her - you'll just upset her. Don't let other people in to see them yet, just you.

Don't, because it will smell like a human, and it may die. The mother may not want it if it's be touched.
