if he was looking to bust a cocaine or pot dealer, can he legally do cocainer and smoke pot

It depends on the courts in the area. In some instances police offices have even had sex with "suspects" then arrested them for prostitution. They even filmed it for court.

The department was questioned about their practice and they said they only use un-married personnel.

Yes. Sometimes in order to get the bust, an undercover officer must do exactly as a real drug dealer/user would do, in order to fit in and not draw unwanted attention to himself.

I wonder about this, for example what about an officer deep uncover with drug dealers? Would'nt they be getting messed up too? Otherwise the bad guys would know they are cops.

sadly these days they are allowed to. Depending on what city and state. But they have to make a report that they did so and then go into a detox program

ive know for a fact an undercover cop can do dope, i saw one do lines of coke b4. i doubt one would take a hit of crack though, they usually rely on narcs for that.

I think only if his life was in danger, i.e. he had to or his cover would be blown, and the dealers would blow him away.

I doubt it. I mean, how would it work? He could do fake coke or pot or something. I don't think so.
