i think you have tolerance confused with submission.
church leaders have used their innate power to get the public to submit to their will for generations and the fact that the masses do not think for themselves allows their leaders to initiate unholy acts in the name of god.

First of all, one would need to define "tolerance". Do different religions have different ideas on what it means to be tolerant?
The answers have major implications. Secondly, though a religion's doctrine might state that tolerance (defined as ?) is a fundamental tenet, one will always have people who will hide beneath the banner of a respective religion without truly being a followerof its tenets. Thirdly, man is corrupted. Good intentions, in the hands of a few bad men can cause much havoc.

You are confusing religion and spirituality. As many have pointed out already, tolerance is not necessarily a tenant of most religions. But tolerance is most definitely a common characteristic found in every truly spiritual person. And I believe you have discovered a very good way to distinguish a pretender from the real deal.

No! Tolerance is NOT the basoc tenant of every religion...ask the Muslims.
If you closely look at what is called 'Religious Wars' you will see that it wasn't truly religious. Man have used religion to make their own wars. The Muslims used religion to conquer others; the Catholics used the crusades to plunder; did the European kings who led these crusades did it for the love of God? Think again.

Many so-called religious wars are not actually about religion but about land. For instance, in Ireland, the people there have been affiliated with their religions for so many generations, it has become who they are. They are not fighting each other to try to convert one another, but for control of the land and the laws. Their churches are not telling them to be against one another.
Look at all these "religious wars" you have read about, and people like to talk about so much.... saying that more wars have been fought for religion than anything else. You will find that in most cases the wars were not about religion, but about politics and land control.

Simply because most religions of today are moving away from their original values. Besides the world leader are the ones provoking wars in the world and they are so not religious or usually use religion to control the minds and the hearts of the naive mass as it has always been done !
But hear this: "They plan, and God plans, and God it the best of planners"

It depends on whether a religion pretends to include others or not. Judaism and related are exclusivist. This means they teach you that everybody else is wrong and they should be prosecuted. Read The Bible and The Quran. It's very clear, they are intollerant.
However, hinduism and related believe that the other religions just view the same in a different way, so they are tollerant. In Asia, it is pretty common to have more than one religion and even create you own. In Japan is usual to be shinto and buddhist and in China taoist and buddhist.

Tolerance is common to most religions. Those engaging in "religious wars" are extremists on both sides of the conflict who truly can barely even identify with their respective religions.

Tolerance isn't the basic tenet of any religions. I don't know where you got that idea.
