and a customer had some kind of disfiguration, an unsightly growth on a visible area of the body, and I approached you, as the manager, and told you that is was so unsightly that I completely lost my appetite and needed to leave just to avoid puking. Now, as the manager, who values all of your customers, and knowing that the person with the unsightly growth has just as much right to enjoy life as anyone else, but also knowing that it may cause discomfort to other patrons how would you handle the situation? Since it is a buffet, and lets assume you were on your second trip through the line, so you did eat something, but you absolutely need to leave so sickening is the image. Would you ask for your money back? It's not the managers fault. Seriously, how would you handle this situation? Thanks

I gave considerable thought to how I worded this question to avoid appearing insensitive, and it's a serious question, so knock off the bullsh*t name calling, calling me shallow, how does that make me shallow? Anyone who has ever known me would know that "shallow" would not be a descriptive adjective in a sentence about me. So cut it out already.

My best answer selection is below but I did want to tell you what transpired. About two weeks ago this did happen, a woman had what appeared to be a very large cyst on her eye and I only noticed after my second trip to the food bar. I sat myself, she was right in front of me, and I tried to clear the image from my mind but that failed. So I just left the restaurant. The other day I was in the restaurant and I called the manager over and asked her how she would have handled the situation. (I work in the industry so I wanted the info for myself in case I would ever again encounter the problem, and it does happen.) She agreed with me, that it would be unfair to the other patron to mention it, but that she had a customer who brought a son in that created unsightly behaviours in full view of other patrons. The manager said that they seated them away from others and brought their food to them. She said the manager would acess the situation at hand and proceed acordingly.

oooooo an ethical question.

I would tell you that I was sorry that you felt that way and tell you that since the other patron was not doing anything by fault there was nothing I could do other than offer you a coupon for a future meal. I would not kick the disfigured patron out and since it was a buffet they had the option to seat themselves. As I patron, you must understand that a public restaurant is just that: public. And the world is full of things we dint neccessarly want to see.

There is only one thing that would change the answer. Was the growth; peeling, flaking, oozing, pusing, dripping or otherwise potentially contaminating the food. Then I would ask the disfigured person stay away from the food offer to seat them away from the customers and offer to serve them. I might even ask them if thier condition was something to be alarmed about, just so we wont have an issue with the CDC.

If I was the manager I would sure ask the person who feels any discomfort to leave if they can't really stay as I can't ask the other customer (the disfigured one) to leave because as you said he also has the right to enjoy going out & eating in a restaurant just like anyone else.

If I was the discomfortable customer I would just leave as I don't have the right to ask them to kick the other person from the restaurant because I don't like how he looks. (I'm sure I won't be in this place as I believe all people God created are equal regardless their skin color, race, sex or religion. Some of the disfigured people are much better than handsome or pretty people on many aspects)

I think if your stomach is that damn sensitive, you should stay at home! If I were a manager & someone complained to me about that, I would permanently ban them from my place!
Shallow people make me MUCH sicker than disfugured ones do!!!!!

I would tell you that I apologize, but I don't have control who comes in and I am sorry it is bothering you. I would not give money back because it is not my fault.
