Well, it depends. Do you intend to breed the pair? Then no do not put the extra female in. You may not have fighting over the male, but you might have jostling over the nest box, interference with raising the babies, or daddy-o could try to keep two families at once, which he can't possibly do. If you have a HUGE cage, you could get another male and colony breed. Two pairs, two nests are OK with cockatiels, but don't let the extra female hang around.

One note about colony breeding though: if you have two males and two females, you will not know who is the father of any of the babies. Cockatiels are not monogamous and the sperm can stay viable in the female's body long after the male has been removed from her presence. If it's important to know the parentage of any babies, then don't colony breed

On the other hand, if you intend to keep three pet birds without breeding, then its fine to keep all three together. They'll prefer it that way.

I wouldn't put them in the same cage just yet. The male may get jealous and start picking on the new female. You can try taking them all out together and see if they'll play together. If your pair is mating and you want babies then you have to separate that other bird. They won't lay eggs when other birds are nearby.

I wouldnt risk it. Once a breeder pard has set up housekeeping they will find that an extra bird may pose a threat.
