We don't know where God was born. If you are referring to the name Abraham was told in Abraham 3 verse 3 and verse 9 in the Pearl of Great Price (not the Doctrine and Covenants), it is the star Kolob (sounds like Koh-lob). It is not, however, the actual name of where God lives, but it is believed by us to be "set nigh unto the throne of God, to govern all those planets which belong to the same order" as the one Abraham lived on, namely our planet Earth.
There is a Kolob Canyon, by the way, in Utah, which is part of Zion National Park. It's been a while since I've been there. Have a good day.

I think you are mistaken they were not saying God was from a planet but that the planet was the closest to God and the heavens. Hope that helps.
According to the Mormon scriptures (Doctrine and Covenants, Abraham 3) our galaxy, if not all galaxies, is posited to contain countless planets either already, or soon to be, inhabited by human-type life. The greatest of these planets is Kolob.
Kolob is said to be the greatest of the planets because it is "nearest unto the throne of God." But, it is also "the greatest of all the Kokau-beam that thou hast seen" ... "which signifies stars or all the great lights which were in the firmament of heaven."

There seems to be a lot of controversy on this. As in different bibles it says that Jesus came from some where far off. I personally used to tease my Mom and say God was an alien. lol Who knows for sure. I will be pretty pissed off if when I die I cant find out then! By the way I believe no one here. They have altered the bible to suit their own purposes, they are all liars. I will never believe gay people are going to hell. I know to many that are a lot better than the so called straight ones. And lets not even go into the priest business.

Kolob is not the planet God was born on. However, we do believe in a thing called eternal progression. "As man now is God once was, and as God now is man may become." I know that y'all don't want to believe that God was once a man like us, but is it really so hard to believe. If you believe the Bible then no it's not. It says we were created in God's image and that Jesus had only done things that He saw the Father do. So, it goes with saying that everything Jesus did, Heavenly Father had already done. Figure it out from there. Ask a Mormon missionary.
