Since atheists believe that Christains and all other religions with a set diety (or dieties) are only going to be disapointted, why not let them be? Seriously you are shoving your own beliefs on them when you tell them that theirs is wrong, isn't that what you critizie the most about christains?

Ignorance is bliss so by all means, if its waht you believe let the God(s) fearing people be happy.

Doing otherwise is really just a waste of breath, and time. If there is no afterlife why are you wasting time trying to convince the people who believe there is one that it doesn't exist. If there is no afterlife then there is also no reason to defemate God(s) fearing religions, you aren't saving them from anything, be cause accroding to Atheism there is nothing to save them from. So just leave 'em alone, and maybe they'll lay off you some.

And other beliefs don't do that. I only answer general questions that do not ask for christians only or are directed at atheists. Given that I do have the right to say what I believe.

I don't care what anyone else believes. I respect individual and their right to choose. If you wanted to worship a fluffy rabbit it would be ok with me. I was once a christian, the majority of my family is christian and I'm married to a christian so I know about the religion.

This is an open board. The title is Religion and Spirituality. Those two are not the same thing. Many atheists are spiritual without being religious. So until for some reason someone bans me I will come here to this board and give my opinions on questions where it is appropriate.

First of all, atheism is not a religion. It is a lack of religion. Anyone who says it is a religion is a liar. The problem is that some religions won't leave alone anyone who has a different belief. That militant spreading of religion is inherent in Christianity and Islam. They've had "holy wars" (What an oxymoron!) for centuries. Thousands of lives have been lost so needlessly. Some of my relatives often annoy me with telling me I should attend church. Why should I? Does the pastor need my money too? My oldest sister has a tantrum if I say anything that might make her question her ignorant beliefs. She says "under God" should be in the Pledge of Allegiance, "In God We Trust" should be on all USA money and Bible verses should be in public buildings. That is forcing Christianity upon everyone, and it's contrary to the First Amendment. Sis fancies that it is fine for her to force her beliefs upon everyone but awful if they fight against that. You sound like her with your mindless rant. Leave others alone if you want to be left alone. Stop distorting the issue!

becasue the religious right in this country is trying its damndest to make its beliefs part of public policy.

when I don't have to look at "in god we trust" on my money and public buildings; when xians quit crying oppression because they are not allowed to infect public policy with their faith, we can talk. unitl then, I will be a loud and proud atheist.

and I do find religious faith to be harmful to individuals and society. many "xians" are xians because they are afraid to say the don't believe. you think it's easy being a non-believer in the bible belt? ppl have a right to know that there is life outside of religious faith, that science is a self-correcting process, and that atheists have plenty of reasons to live and can be quite happy doing it. and we do it all without god - we raise children who are productive members of society, we contribute to society and we try to leave the world a little better than we found it. and we do it all without god, all without the carrot of "heaven" when we die. we do good things just for the sake of doing good things, not for some eternal reward. atheists make the world a better place NOW.

I have a fine family, nice home and great friends. I went to night school while working full time, graduated magna *** laude and still didn't neglect my family (summa *** laude required too much sacrifice with my family). I have a good job of nine years and the respect of my co-workers. I am mentally and emotionally healthy. and I have done it all without god.

know what else? if it all comes crashing down, I'm mentally prepared. I know I can manage any situation ON MY OWN. not saying I never need help from anyone at all, just not from god.

god is not the only answer, and I have as much right to say so as religious ppl have to peddle their spiritual poison.

Christian policy, Christian discrimination, Christian proselytizing, and so on... These all seek to turn atheists into second class citizens, and they do these things unprovoked. Whether we actually harm them or not, they have their little holy book telling them that we're all evil.

Remember that. Christians believe that I, because I don't believe in their god, deserve nothing less than an eternity of inhumane torture. And these are the people setting policy for the country.

This is why I worry.

So simple...Know what's true, do what's right. Religion is wrong, and it causes problems in the world. It might make people feel good, but that is not a worthy end in itself because it causes problems for everyone. It's like saying "Why not just let the crack heads be crack heads? Oh, and quit trying to stop the drug traffic too."

We won't leave other religions alone because they won't leave us alone. All my Christian friends are always trying to get me to convert and become "saved." Politicians (especially Bush) use religion in their policies. Fundamentalists in the Middle East are using religion as an excuse for violence. Everywhere I look I see others throwing their religion around. Why should I keep silent about my beliefs?

You do realize that there are no wars being waged by atheists right now, don't you?

Do you perhaps understand why we want to see religion done away with?

Ever heard of 9/11? The Crusades? The Inquisition? The KKK? Hezbollah?

Think it over some time.

Because if we manage to let everyone know the truth that...

"THERE IS NO AFTERLIFE!"

Perhaps they'll get off their butts and do something about all the injustices in this world, rather than praying and waiting for the next one.

I think it would be nice if EVERYONE left other religions alone. Atheists aren't the only bashers on this site, there are plenty from other faiths as well. I think it goes both ways.........
