The last one you can get away with will be the one you give right before you decide to use your tongue.

Ok yeh treating an unconscious patient changed recently...we no longer check for signs of circulation. The new drill is...

Check for danger, check response...

Yes response? treat for conditions

No response? Open airway and check for breathing...

Yes breathing? recovery position and get help.

Not breathing? if accompanied...send for an ambulance and commence CPR at a rate of 30 compressions to 2 rescue breaths.

If alone...due to drowning? yes?...5 rescue breaths (as oxygen levels are probably too low in the body) then CPR (30:2) for 1 minute before going for ambulance.

Not due to drowning?...call for ambulance immediately (as defib is probably necessary and more important than oxygen which should still be at a high level in the body) and then commence CPR at a rate of 30 compressions to 2 breaths.

Hope this helps :)

Just updated my first aid & you don't need to give the breaths anymore, give 30 compressions, check for breathing, then another 30 if needed, the method is that as you give a compression the body is drawing air in anyway, hope this helps,,,,

Depends on how long it take to resuscitate them. Then you won't want to kiss them, because the first thing they will do is throw up. This is the body's response to re-direct important energy.

As many as is needed to keep the casualty alive.

Normally 2 rescue breaths then check.

If heart is beating, repeat until breathing starts.

The cycle has changed now with less stops for breaths. It's considered more important to keep the volume moving.....hence the ratio has changed... www.resus.org.uk

I hate to spoil the mood BUT...
If they really NEED the kiss of life then, if it works, they'll probably vomit when they come back to life. definitely a turn off.
If they don't need it then enjoy the practise and if they complain tell them you need to get as much practise as pos. ;o)
