About eight weeks is good. A bit earlier won't hurt, but certainly no earlier than six weeks. A good sign is when the mother starts trying to ignore the kittens, which usually happens at around 7-8 weeks of age.

But once you ween them off make sure the mothers **** dont get filled up with milk to much because its painful.
