About eight weeks is good. A bit earlier won't hurt, but certainly no earlier than six weeks. A good sign is when the mother starts trying to ignore the kittens, which usually happens at around 7-8 weeks of age.

8 weeks. The mother will start weaning them around 6. They learn a lot of social behavior from 6-8 weeks of age. Kittens taken from their mother too early sometimes have a hard time adjusting. They also do things like pee outside the box. Suck on their humans, etc.

You should start weening them at 5 weeks, and then not let them feed off their mother once they reach about 6 weeks and are eating good on their own, i have done a million litters in my life trust me, any questions, i know. But once you ween them off make sure the mothers **** dont get filled up with milk to much because its painful. So the whole 6-8 weeks isnt a good idea, id stick more towards 8, its better for the mother.

6 to 10 weeks is a guide. They should be weened from mom, and eating food on their own. They should also be using a cat box on their own. A litter with several kittens will produce a range of kittens who will take varying amounts of time to be ready to leave.Smaller ones might take longer than bigger ones.

Around 6 weeks old. You can usually tell when they can be separated from their mother also because their mom will stop letting them get milk and may hiss at them. If you take them away too soon they may try to nurse on blankets, clothes, etc.
