Atheist's lives have the same purpose as everyone else's, they just don't try to fool anyone about what it is. If you don't know what that is, you're not paying enough attention in biology.
Better to ask the Theists, given the assumptions of Christianity and the other 'afterlife' religions, is what are you wasting your time with this life for? Logically it would be best for them to die as soon as possible.
If it comes to contemplating suicide (particularly suicide bombing) which state of mind is the most conducive? "I have nothing to live for" or "I have something to die for"

I look at it this way: It is outrageous that I go to sleep each night, have wild experiences, then wake up to the continuation of my daily life. That is just unbelievable. I have the ability to sculpt my daily world into this or that over time. There are surprises in all realities. Some day I will die. I'm in love (somewhat recently). My emotions are more than I can comfortably handle, and they range, of course, across the spectrum. I hope no one captures me and tortures me, or that I get a painful disease. I dread harm coming to those I love. But when I die, none of this will be true anymore. I just believe that is the truth; that's what I woke up into when I was born. If I knew I would die tomorrow I would be happy AND sad.

my purpose in life, hmm. thats hard. my boyfriends love, my family, the way the sunset looks, the stars at night, music..art, little comforts like chocalate, a warm hoody, and a tv show. also the fact that life is meant to be lived, whether you are religious or not, or why would we be here? when we evolve, we are meant to live, to pick someone to have kids with, and to raise a family.. but since we are humans, our living goes beyond that even..and we live for music, knowledge, and many other things.. i do not think you have to tell yourself there is a god to be happy. just because YOU (the asker of this question) does, not everyone else needs that assurance

I thought life was a fun adventure with ups and downs, like a roller coaster. Hmmm. Atheists don't believe in the afterlife right, so they better live their lives to the fullest because once your dead, your dead. So what's a religious persons reason to live, (besides going to hell if they kill themselves). They believe in heaven so if they're really good I bet they can't wait to die and get into heaven *sarcasm*. An atheists purpose to life would be.......To make a positive impact on the world and have fun (if you're nice) or get everything you want at the expense of no one (if you're mean). It all depends on the person. Same with religious people...depends on the person.

To be creative and compassionate. To view the universe with wonder and curiosity. To enjoy giving and receiving love. To help solve more problems than I cause. To find a way to balance the drive to achieve something with the drive to connect with a community. And to leave an echo that others will enjoy for at least a little while after I'm gone.

I live for the small pleasures in life, a fine meal, a good episode of "The Office," a wonderfully sloppy blow.job, a trip to the beach, an awsome book, some good music... Do Christians live only to get to heaven?

I find good reasons to live every day. Life is enjoyable. Life is exciting. Life is sexy.
At times, life is scary and life is boring and life is difficult, but those times are also part of life. They make for a good story.
I don't need a magical mystical purpose to love life.

I live for my wife, my family, my friends, my dog and myself. I live to make the world a better place for the people around me and to experience beauty and joy and bring it to others. I live to love life. If that's not enough for you, if you really need the validation of an old guy in the sky to give your life any meaning, then I feel sorry for you.

This is a really bizzare question.
Are you implying that you live for god and religion?
Because if that's what you live for, that's sort of sad.
I live for life, because I might as well live it out and have a good time.
I live for family, friends, the community. I live cause I believe I'm a good person.
I think that's what you're looking for anyway.

My husband, my family, my community and myself. For me life is meant to be lived the best way I can with the time that I have. I am lucky to have people that love me and care for me. I give back of myself to my community because it is what makes me happy. I have a great career and I really enjoy life. I'm very content.
