Absolutely!
I was born into this society and socialized in the way things are done.
In order to survive in this society you must go with the flow.
There is an order to every society.
You must follow it or be put upon by it.
It has to do with the human condition.
I am physical therefore I have physical needs.
If I were ethereal I wouldn't need physical things.
I would be in spirit. Then I would need spiritual needs.
You see every society has its needs.
The ideal that we go off into the bushes and free love and free everything doesn't fit.
There is a set system, and you will comply to that system one way or another.

Materialistic has several definitions but the American definition would be the belief that money, possessions, and comfort are the most important things to obtain in life. I know that without money in the World we have created then you can not survive as a free animal - money is freedom and thus being materialistic is a way to try to obtain freedom. Not many will arrive at enough money for total freedom as we are all kept through taxes in a level of wealth that makes us crave for freedom and thus crave material things in particular Money and thus Governments keep us all working until we curl up and die. All animals are materialistic.

Yes I am totally 100% materialistic. Why? Well, I like nice things... I believe if you invest in some higher priced items they will outlast something that may have cost half the amount. I was also raised in a fairly well-to-do family, but I was taught that it is necessary to appreciate, work for and deserve anything you get. I wish I wasn't as materialistic as I am, and as much as I try to nip it in the butt, I can't.... what can I say?

I suppose I am a bit. I think all of us have that side to some degree. Ironically, I often look around myself and wonder how much I would miss those things. The answer for my collections outside of a few books is that I would not miss them. So, in spite of my acquisitive nature, I seem to have an anti-materialist side.

I used to be very materialistic, but the last year has taught me there are far more important things than possessions, being seperated from my husband in a prison made me realise the most important thing we can ever have is time together and memories

Being honest, I'd have to say that i am but i try not to be too bad with it. There are certain things that we're conditioned to think that we can't live without and you have to be very strong willed not to succumb to those temptations. I mean what would we all be doing right now if we all hadn't went out and bought computers? We don't need these to survive but we all wanted one, didn't we? It's a case of wanting what we don't need and taking for granted all the small things that we can't live the lives we are accustomed to without, like family, friends and our senses. I'm not fully materialistic, i care for other people and love to communicate face to face so i can only believe that there is hope for me yet.

This is something I'm trying to get rid of, but the most materialistic people in a society such as ours, are the people with very little money.

sorry everyoen is whether they admit it or not. if they arent materialistic they can handle 1 pair of clothes and give the rest to people who actually need it. everyone values their material objects 1 way or nother, else they'd be on the streets. (be it your car, your clothes, your jewelry, your money) anyone on a computer right now is materialistic, else you would have no problem giving those of us who are materialistic your computer would you ^^

I think we all are, even those who don't admit it, how many of us can honestly say we NEED all the things we have. We WANT the things we have IN THE MAIN WE DON'T NEED THEM TO SURVIVE, so thats being materialistic isnt it???.
