For the record, humans did not evolve from monkeys. We share a common ancestor which is why humans share as much as 98% of the same DNA as other hominoidea (superfamily of primates which includes humans). If you're going to make claims for us, have the intelligence (i know, i know.. silly request) to research your claims, otherwise, you deem yourself an insipid baboon.
Again, humans DID NOT come from monkeys. Is that clear? Did that penetrate your think skulls?

I love it how grammar nazi christians call me out on a word that is obviously a type and not done out of not knowing how to spell a word. Is that they're best argument? *laughs*
90% of chrisitians can't spell (not to be confused with typos) which is evident by browsing this answers forum.
By the way, atheist is only capitalized when at the beginning of the sentence since it is not a proper noun.

I hear ya man. That gets to me as well. There are many animals like this, with a common ancestor. Dogs and bears for instance share a common ancestor. I think the problem is, is that we take the time to study religion, so that we are informed, why can't believers in God do the same. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure some do, but it seems like the only ones that speak out have no education in science, or at least of done some study in the subject. They just reject it as fiction with out an objective view.

It seems that you are neglecting something very basic that would have to occur for evolution to be true in any form.
If we share as much as 98 percent of the same DNA as other hominoidea , we would have to be able to interbreed within this "family" If within a "family" the kinds are unable to recreate, there would be no evolution that could take place.
This is a very basic item that must be present in order for any species or "family" to continue to evolve as per the terms of the original theory.
I should note, that in current scientific circles, the theory of evolution has been laid aside as unreliable, it is currently only taught in public school classrooms and outdated texts in the library.

Tell that to my science teachers I had when I was in public school. I also had a psychology professor, who appeared to be very knowledgeable about it, show our class those classic pictures of a monkey evolving into a man. By the way, the idea that humans and monkeys share an unknown "common ancestor" still sounds ridiculous to me.

in the case of Piltdown man also used in the scopes trial it was a chimpanzee (a monkey) with teeth filed down and stained to look old

If you have so little tolerance for Christians then why pray tell are you haunting a religion and spirituality sight? Take your argument one step further, we share 98% of our dna with the rest of the species, were all members of the same super family derived from the same source which is that single celled amobae. So I retract that your daddy was a chimp and insert your daddy was a slushy single celled simplistic organism. Happy?

Not all Christians claim that athiest think we came from monkeys. But, thank you for explaining about the DNA. From my point of view, an athiest is someone who doesn't believe in God. Plain and simple. Although that is unfortunate, that is the definition of an athiest, and it's is okay with God if you don't believe in Him, although He would prefer you did. But you need to know He believes in you.

The main problem here isn't what everybody believes in, it's the fact that everyone on Answers likes to group anyone that's "Christian" or "Atheist" or "Jewish" etc... together. Meaning if one christian makes a retard remark everyone else automatically assumes all christians are stupid and believe what the one stupid person said. This is just silly... stop categorizing everyone into "groups." No group/religion/belief system is perfect or has only perfect people in it. One person does not represent the population. Thank you!

Because most people are afraid to read, hear about, or talk about anything that may put doubt upon their faith. They've heard from a friend that we came from monkeys, and they're running with that. They don't bother to read Origin of Species. They don't bother to take the Biology class that discusses Evolution (or listen to the teacher if they do sign up for it). They just sit back content that they know all the facts they need to.

In essence you are confusing things as well, mostly in how the Christians are confusing things. They are referring to Chimps and Gorillas, but they call them monkeys (which is scientifically wrong, but they have the right idea about what evolution says). That isn't so much an attack on your beliefs as an athiest, just attempting to clarify what it is the Christians are saying.

10 more people will ask "if we evolved from monkeys why are there still monkeys" in the next 24 hours. You can't get to those types with reason or evidence.
