He was with her about 5 months. Now he only will eat people food. I can't get him back to dog food. Any idea's how I can change him back. Special type of food? If I stop feeding him people food he won't eat. I tried.

He will not starve himself to death. He will try to out wait you and get you to feed him people food. Don't fall for it. Put his food down in the morning give him 20 minutes to eat. If he doesn't eat then pick it up and don't offer it to him again until that evening. You can keep an eye on the amount of food and see if any disappears. You might have to continue to do this for several days but always give him fresh food each morning. As long as he is drinking water he will be okay. People food can make them die 2 to 3 years sooner. For awhile mix the people food with the dog food. My dogs won't eat straight dog food, so I have to put some cheese on top. They also really enjoy cat food on top of their dog food. This is not as unhealthy for them as people food. Some pet stores also make a type of dog food gravy that my dogs enjoy as well.

Have you tried mixing his dog food with gravy or chicken and rice? I know there are some dogs that will actually not eat if they dont care for there food. I keep canned chicken and boil in bag rice on hand when ever my my dogs have an upset stomach. I keep it in the fridge and just heat it up when needed. Have you consulted your vet? you should call a vet for that kind of help (the trick is to wean him back to dag food) mainly for his health because most people food is not good for dogs~some people food like chocolate can even make him very very sick~~~dog food has all the nutritional elements needed for a dog to stay healthy

Normal food will kill your pet eventually. It messes up their internal organs. Dogs should NEVER be given food for human consumption. If it wont eat dog food you have to take it to the vet.

You might want to start gradually mixing dog food in with the human food.
As time goes on, start phasing the human food out of the mix, untill it is just dog food.
This might work better with moist dog foods.

Mix people food with the dog food. Then ween him off of the people food.

Trust me, if you feed him dog food long enough (and nothing else) he will finally eat it. He won't starve himself to death. Withhold everything but dog food and of course, give him water.

No more human food! Take the dog for long daily walks and only offer it dog food. He will not starve to death I assure you.
