In the most basic and general sense, all matter on earth (ie everything) is made of the same things. Everything is made of atoms, though there are different atoms of different elements and all atoms are made of quarks...and on and on. That is the almost metaphysical chemical answer.
Almost all of what is in air and water can be found in most living things. Living things (at least those we know of here on earth) are made of carbon containing molecules (sugars, amino acids, nucleic acids, proteins, fats, carbon dioxide) that is what we define (with a couple of exceptions) as organic matter. All living things (here on earth, thus known) contain water, and other molecules containing hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, sodium and a lot of other elements.
What makes a living organism living and a jar of all of the right chemicals just soup is a question for another category...lol

How would you define living? if its moving is it alive? in that case eveything is moving at antomic level. so is eveything alive. or is life just an illusion? (i know i went all philosopical on you but its really an intresting thought).
