I have raised 5 teenagers & have planned many parties that are easy & unexpensive. Also I do catering. To many suggestions to list here, would take up to much space, but feel good about emailing. Contact me if you're interested.
I hope you have a GREAT party no matter what choice you make.

I loved this, which I learned as an aide in a children's cooking class(consider making this after guests are there, they might want to participate):
Fill a tray with one layer of pretzels - the square ones that look llike little checkerboards, or windowpanes.
Put a chocolate kiss on each one.
Put the tray in a 300degree oven for less that a minute (keep an eye on this part or it's all over), just let them soften, glisten a little.
Take the tray out, put an M&M on each one, pushing it down gently on the softened kiss, and the kiss will puff out like a pillow below the M&M, looks nice.
The whole tray goes into the fridge to chill a few minutes.
It's an easy, quick and attractive presentation.

Hi there, I have been baking for awhile, taught by my MOM, the best treat for you and your friends would be Rice Krispie but just in squares. You can use cookie cutters and make shapes out of the sqaure. Once you have them cut use butter icing with color and decorate any way you want. The other item is a cake mix which only requires a couple of eggs and some oil with water. These you can put into cup cake holders and then aftre you have cooled them in frig again use your icing. The icing is just butter and icing sugar, I get the sugar at a dollar store but it's pretty cheap to buy at most places. You can also use pop corn with melted marshmellows, roll into balls and roll in sprinkles for decor.your mOM or Gramma should be able to give you some help in using the oven and stove. The rice Treat is on the box of ceral and the cake mix is has directions as well. You can also get ballons and small toys that would suit your age and put carefully a toy in each balloon before you blow them up. You then give one to each guess and at the end of your party you get them to break them and get the surprise inside. I hope this is some things you will be able to do. but please make sure you have someone who has used the stove and oven with you. Have fun at your party. Mich

You can make this look professional and catered by buying kale
to lay under the vegs/fruits. Platters can be found at grocery store or party supply stores. Sometimes deli dept's in stores will sell them to you for a buck
Buy a bag of chicken wings and cook in the oven w/ barbeque
sauce or one of those commerical hot wing sauces. If you don't
want this fuss do rolled sandwiches w/flour tortillas, cheese,
and Turkey and or ham
Make your own vegetable platters-carrots, broccoli, celery and one bottle of ranch dressing.
Potato chips or Salsa and Chips
Make your own Fruit tray w/grapes, strawberries, melon
Soda's or buy in the frozen food section frozen punch mix in which you add ginger ale-that way they fell like they are getting
a little fizz with out the alcohol
Make cupcakes-they are individual and cheaper than buying a cake and you can let them add toppings if they like
plus cupcakes are considered to be hip right now!

Do pinwheel wraps using tortillas, deli meat, cheese, and cream cheese spread or mayo spread. Hollow watermelon halves and put fruit salad in them. Make pink lemonade and add lemon slices, serve from large clear jars. Order a sheet cake from Costco, if possible, since they are only $15 and REALLY good! And have colored nacho chips and salsa and veggie tray for snaking. Maybe do a fiesta theme, and have a pinata and such still, because the colors are great, and the kids still like to be kids sometimes, but the food will be adult enough without overkill.
If you don't want the fruit tray, do fruit and cheese kabobs with fresh pineapple chunks, grapes, strawberries, and a mild cheese or two, like colby or mozarella or meunster. If you do a fiesta, make cornbread or cornbread muffins, too. It is really easy to make, even from the Jiffy brand mixes, and tastes good.

My son's favorite 'party food' is when I take a pound of bacon and a package of those little smokies, cut the bacon into thirds, wrap around a smokie, secure using or toothpick, or I usually just put several of them on a skewer, put in a shallow pan, sprinkle brown sugar over all of them, then bake at 350 until the bacon is fully cooked.

For 13 y/o, I'd have an assortment of pizzas and stand back! They will be unimpressed w/ any other food you present to them, so give Domino's a little bisiness adn save yourself the headache. Be sure to get a couple cheese-only pizzas fot the ones who think they still hate meat and onions.

Try the grocery store and look at their different types of deli & vegetable trays and copy off them but do it your way yourself. They usually have a free colorful pamphlet you can snag. It is so much cheaper than having them do it. I also get my supplies from a party store, that is where the pros go but you will save money doing it your self. Maybe have your 13 yr. old go w/you. There are also alot of cook books called Party Food, I got one at Barnes and Noble but any book store should have them.
