whooooo, DON'T relax or perm your hair, trust me you'll live to regret it. I have long thick curly hair, and i completely understand where your coming to, ive often felt at times that I was going to war, a full on battle with your hair. But their is a solution:

Firstly check the products you are using in your hair that will make a massive difference believe me. Try and stay away from gels and products like dax, and target products with essiential oils such as carrot oil etc. There really easy to get hold off, just go to nearnest ethinc hair shop.

Secondly if you want to starighten it in invest in a good pair of GHD straighteners (trust me NOTHING ELSE will compare) and a good ionic hairdryer, I suggest going to ebay to get them much cheaper. Your hair will straighten easier, last much longer and suffer much less if any damage.

Make sure your getting regular trims which makes a big difference with curly hair. Also, try and establish if your hair is more afro, or more European and treat it accordingly, as i'm sure you know differnt hair types require slightly different care. I recommend www.blendedbeauty.com a sight for peple with mixed race hair or www.nappturality.com a site for people with curly to afro hair. Both are fantastic and you casn get some really fab advice from there.

I f you must chemically straighten your hair please don't go for a full relaxer, try a texturiser which lossens the curl and makes it a bit more manageable....although i still wouldn't recomend any chemical treatment, both are permanent, and you WON'T get your curls back in their orginal state unitl you grow it all out, which if your hair is long will take years. They both also end up destroying the hair...not a nice look lol.

Anywaz whatever you decide good luck, sorry for long **** post but ive been there, my solution ghd's and the right products :)

My daughter (mixed) had beautiful thick curly high-maintanence hair - I put a perm in it and messed it ALL up, now it's short, dry and alot thinner.

My neighbor (mixed) has beautiful versitile hair and she has a perm (relaxer) in it.

I think it really depends on your upkeep. If you can do the upkeep, you will probably have a beautiful head of hair. But if you slip and don't take care of it everyday, it will end up ruined!

So think about that. In the meantime, use a good flat iron to get the "relaxed" look (hopefully that will work); I also put my daughter's hair in twists and it came out great. She was able to leave it in for three days.

Hope that helps!

i have crazy hair and have never relaxed it, but i also tried straightening it a few times, but its like trying to flatten a garden bush or something! i guess you use all the serums and that stuff also. i used this amazing shampoo called 'motions at home' which seems to calm my hair and makes it so soft too. my bro has the same hair and grew it out, and has plaits now for the past 10 years or so! other than that what about getting one of those super duper straighteners? very expensive but they work better. other than that you could jus believe everyone else when they say they love our hair and leave it the way it is!

I have the same problem. DONT get a perm. your hair will never be the same, you have to wait until it grows out to get your natural texture back. go to www.blendedbeauty.com. There products are made for curly unruly hair. I have givin up trying to straighten my hair, bu tthey do sell something that helps keep it straight on there website. The product line is created by a Canadian women that is half white and half black, so she know what it is like to have unruly hair. Good Luck.

PS if you go to
you can get a set of 10 samples for $20.

Being mixed myself I can relate. A relaxer will not hurt your hair if done properly/professionally. If you are mixed with black I suggest you go to a black persons salon and let them analyze you hair.
