A geriatric is a person who has reached an old age.Usually the base is 65yrs but a lot of people are not old at that age so geriatrics is only a phrase

A lot of health authorities are trying to get rid of the title geriatric and increase the age for people who have mental health problems and are not suffering from dementia.
I think just because a person hits the age 65 years old it doesn't mean they automatically loose their marbles.
If a person has a good care plan at 64 year old that benefits the person why should that person have to start using Day centres for old people once they hit 65.

Geriatrics was a term used for people over 65 to answer your question. It has fallen out of favour and been changed to elderly.
