In my opinion NW airlines is the worst. The flight attendants where old, crotchety and rude! as well as their reservations agents. However the gate agents where very accomidating, though not enought to ever get me to fly again. I work for an airline so I can fly for CHEAP. But I wouldnt fly on them if it was free!!!!!!!! Woops, as to anser your question you get what you pay for most of the time. I found america west is good, alaska is great, frontier is good.....it's all about whats important. SW is cheap and ok if you'de rather no frills but service is freindly.

Nope. I flew Northwest Airlines to Charleston, SC. The onplane service was very good, the flight attendants were really nice. My only problem was when I offered to change flights (they needed somebody to do that). In my opinion Delta (which is more expensive than NW) is the absolute worst. When I got to my gate to get my boarding pass for the connecting flight I was told I had to go to a different area and then run back to the gate before take off. When I got back to the gate, they informed us that they could not find our pilots.

I don't think so - I fly SWA and ATA often and they aren't any different than any other airline. In fact, the people who work for them tend to be friendlier and I can get a direct flight through them much easier than through Northwest, which is the airline I hate more than any other.
Now, if you're talking the difference between coach and first or business class, yes, there's a big difference there...

There are some airlines that are pretty cheap that are pretty nice to fly on but a lot of them are not really nice when they are cheap. If you have money, go for a nicer one like American Airlines is pretty good. If you don't have that much money, then go for cheaper but you can pretty much tell if it will be crappy or not

No. Southwest has the cheapest flights, and the service is just fine. They give light snacks on short flights, which Continental and US Air, who charge more, don't. Attendants are really pleasant.
