Compared to what? English as a 1st language? if there is no 2nd language at all?

A 2nd language is used in different parts than the 1st language. In fact, people who learn to be simultaneous translators actually end up changing the parts of the brain used for their languages.

Yes; In some cases of TBI (traumatic brain injury) a person may lose only his first or only his second language. I saw this in an Amish patient (spoke German AND English before TBI) after brain injury.
