Nicely, of course. I don't want to be mean simply because they're being mean.

To be honest, I don't think you can. I also feel strongly about swearing and I don't like that some of my friends swear too but that is part of their culture. It's part of their personality. You may think it is rough but in their points of view, it's not that big of a deal.

For example, some may believe it is offensive to stick your chopsticks in a big bowl of rice. You might not think anything of it, but to others, it may be extremely offensive.

You can try to ask them politely and convey your concerns saying that you would like it if they didn't swear in front of you but just because you do, it won't remove that part of them. If you repeatedly ask, I'm sure they will begin to remember not to swear in your presence (worked for me) but whether or not they swear elsewhere, is a different matter.

In the end, you can only make sure, that you do what is best for you

I don't think this is your job. Chances are the parents of such youngsters swear a lot, too. Just make sure you are being a good role model by not swearing in public or anywhere else.

If you've asked them nicely not to swear in public, because it's trashy, and they continue....get new friends. I know no one likes to hear this, just as I didn't 10 years ago, but friends that don't respect your wishes....don't respect you. Period. Find someone who feels the same way you do and you'll probably have more in common in other ways, too.

I don't think you should stop them. Words are words, and they're neither 'good' nor 'bad'. It's insane to think that saying '****' is worse than saying 'poop'. How can you censor words? Why would you want to? Look, even if you wanted to, you probably won't be able to stop them. Chances are they do it automatically. It's not like they're thinking about how many times they can throw the words in a conversation. They come out as freely as any other word, and should.

Set up a charging system...and charge them each time they swear :)
How to make them pay? I don't know, but worth a shot!
OR, find new friends that do not offend you, ones with which you have more in common, like common courtesy!

Slap them in the mouth as soon as they curse. Don't wait longer cuz otherwise they won't know why they're being slapped. If you do it hard enough the first time, I guarantee they'll never cuss again in public or anywhere else!

You can say that you don't like hearing bad language and would they please try not to do that around you. Unfortunately you can't make them stop. And as I've noticed, the more people swear the more they don't even realize they do it. It becomes such a habit.

I swear in front of my friends. I don't think they mind. If they just said they didn't like it, I'd stop instantly. So just tell them how you feel about it. I wish my friends would if they didn't like it. I don't want to make them uncomfortable.

For heaven's sake, take a stand. If you are right, which I think you are, don't worry about being mean. Tell them you won't hang out with them anymore if they don't stop the potty mouth, plain and simple.

Well, influence them NOT TO SWEAR. When they swear, tell them that they should not do it. Just don't let yourself be pressured, just influence them until they stop. That is good peer pressure.
