Let's control our anger here, OK? I agree that this is the single most distressing thing cat owners have to face. Take immediate action:
1. Do not let the cat have access to the couch. This may involve putting him in a bathroom while you make an appointment with the vet to have him checked for a urinary infection.
2. Take your cat tomorrow. A blockage with crystals in the urine can cause death within about three days.
You cat has painful urination. He needs your help. This is the only way he knows to get your attention.
Go to www.littlebigcat.com. Jean Hovfe, DVM has four articles there about inappropriate urination, causes and ideas of breaking bad habits etc.

Could have a urinary tract infection, his litter box isnt cleaned well enough, he's pissed off at you for some reason, you changed litter or bought a new litter box... the list can go on and on. Cats are very clean and routine creatures so if you do something to disrupt that then they will be pissed off and urinate in other places.

How long ago was it neutered? Does it go outside? And how old was it when it was neutered. If they are older when they were neutered, then they will still spray, it won't smell as bad, but they will sometimes keep doing it. If they go outside and are inside and see another cat outside they will sometimes spray to warn the outside cat that this is their territory. Good luck.

Even neutered cats do this as you have found out. Usually this happens if you have brought a new piece of furniture or something into the house. Cats then do this to claim it 'Theirs'

sounds to me that he might be remarking his territory or then again he could have a infection somewhere that was caused by the surgery. the best thing to do right now is to call you vet and tell them everything so they can find exactly why this is happening. until you find out, try not to get to upset with your cat cause it could be an infection that isn't his fault and he's unable to control.
call the vet!

Have you introduced any new personalities to your home (another pet, a boyfriend, etc)? Have you been gone a lot lately? Is the potty cleaned EVERY day (twice or more if necessary?) He could be protesting.
