Do not, I repeat, do not try using sun-in! It will make your dark brown hair a burnt orange color. I suggest that you get some honey or carmel colored highlights - small stands all over will give you a lighter look. You will have to use a lightener to achieve this. If your hair was light brown or dark blonde the other things might work, but the darker the color, the more red undertones it has. If you want to buy something and do it yourself go to Sally beauty supply and get some Clairol Kaliedocolors. You'll also need some developer (20 volume). It works best with heat, but will work without it (just slower). I would pull it through a cap to get even results. Just ask the people who work there to help you - they're fully trained to answer your questions and it's easier when the hair is in front of you to tell someone what to do.

Other natural solutions for lightening brown hair:
Very concentrate chamomille tea (without sugar of course). You'll need continuos applications of it on clean dry hair, dont rinse it out.
Lemon juice (just dont go to the sun with it on). Apply it for a few days on damp hair. Rinse it out after around 15 minutes of leaving it on.
Beer. Rinse your hair with it after your shampoo for a few days. Rinse out if you dont want to smell like you just came out of a bar.
And what works best, strongest and instantly: Oxigenated water (buy it a a drugstore). You dont have to rinse it out if you want even lighter hair. If you feel its too concentrate and its decolorating you hair too much, dilute it in some water.

If you want orange hair ... go right ahead. Realistically, the only thing that will lighten your hair is bleach.

Don't do it! Dark brown hair is lovely. Who wants to be just another boring bottle blonde?

Yep this works great! You could use regular vinegar. Either type will make your hair a perfect Ronald McDonald orange!
