Most of them have absolutely NOTHING to do with the beer at all. Take shampoo adverts for example: "Makes your hair shine and makes it smooth" - trying to sell you the shampoo, but beer adverts are just long, boring things that don't mention the beer until the very end. Even mobile phone adverts manage to get in "the phone has a camera, built-in microwave and MP3 player", but the beer adverts are just a waste of time. Same goes for the perfume adverts - they're just someone walking about in a strange place before the perfume bottle comes up.

Why are the adverts so stupid and annoying?

I so agree with what you have to say. Like why can't they just get to the point. Right.

I live in United Kingdom and the adverts for beer and cars are really stupid here, nothing at all to do with the product.

There is a stupid advert for Fosters Lager about being on a beach and trying to find shade to keep the beer cool and it seems to be an advert for holidays or bikinis and at the last moment, it says "Fosters the best beer in Austrailia and England"

The advert for Guinness shows stupid things like a man dancing rround a large pint of liquid and states "not everything you see in black and white is to be believed" Absolutely stupid and I agree with your comments.

They are trying to sell you beer. However, as most of the products that masquerade as beer, and thus need advertising, are insipid and vacuous, the brewers have to find an association between the beer and some other virtue in order to sell their mass-produced muck.

Here is the answer. Go into a pub, and order a pint of non-advertised real beer - bitter - pulled from a hand pump or delivered electrically. Search for pubs recommended by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) of that have Cask Marque qualifications. Real beer does not need advertising - news of its quality spreads by word of mouth.

A few suggestions. Buy beers from the following breweries (the list is not exhaustive) -

Adnams, Fullers, Greene King, Banks's, Marstons, Robinsons, Thwaites, Hydes, Holt's, Wychwood, Eldridge Pope, Brains, Felinfoel, Buckleys, Burtonwood, Deuchars, McEwans, Shepherd Neame, Batemans, Elgoods, Courage (Directors or Best), Everards, Samuel Smith, John Smith's real ale (be careful), Hilden, Lee's,
Newcastle Exhibition (Real or Tank, not Keg). There are many others....Don't drink Lager in England, except Cobra and Kingfisher!

Alcohol adverts don't make sense for one reason: the actors cannot drink the product! Just watch all the commercials and you will notice the drink never touches their lips. Coke and Pepsi can show people enjoying the beverage. Savoring the flavor and refreshing nature of the drink. Alcohol can only show you the perceived benefits of drinking; sex and a good time. So to keep your attention they pump up the sexuality, or show you people doing fun goofy things.

All comfortable beer, Zima, wine coolers, and those malt liquor beverages like Mike's confusing Lemonade are sissy beverages. Mike's is okay in case you blend it with a shot of vodka. you may want to dirnk a British Ale, a German lager, or a micro brew. P.S. by no skill placed fruit in a beer.

Most beer companies have been around for a Looooooong time so they use their commercials to make people laugh and establish brand recognition instead of using them as informative which is what shampoos and cell phones do since they are constantly changing and introducing new names.

They have worked because you remember the product. It does not matter how you remember the product as long as you do.
Some adverts are deliberately annoying, like the old shake n' vac or Kellogg's Bran Flakes "tasty tasty"crap, but because they are bad you remember them and the product, just as you do now with the beer and perfume !

It's all about getting your attention. Giving you something to remember and then showing you the product.
I still love to watch the funny ones, tho. Sometimes they have shows with all the commercials that are funny. Here and other countries. It is Good!
