this on paper, a boxing fan's delight...you have mayweather, perhaps the best overall right now as we speak....then you have the unheralded, unknown baldomir taking down name fighters in a very convincing manner...

could go either way with some lucky shots....but i see it for mayweather by majority decision...although not by much

It's an exciting time to be a boxing fan. This year has been excellent with quality bouts galore on ESPN, Showtime and HBO. November 4th, Floyd Mayweather Jr. takes on the WBC, undisputed, lineal welterweight champion in Carlos Manuel 'Tata' Baldomir.

Baldomir, 43-9-6, has not lost since 1998 and his last three fights have been top-notch wins. He bested Miguel Angel Rodriguez in an eliminator bout, then upset Zab Judah for the title in Judah's backyard and then went into Arturo Gatti's backyard and beat 'Thunder' to a pulp over nine rounds. With those three wins over the last year or so, there is no better deserving welterweight out there than Baldomir and no more worthy a champion.

Baldomir will press the action and is not easily discouraged. He is walking around right now at super-middleweight or above and has a huge frame for 147-lbs. He has a solid chin, but his down fall in the Mayweather bout could be his speed and power. Baldomir has only 13 KO's for a 22% KO clip, but Mayweather, IMHO, hasn't looked all that strong at welterweight and although his pinpoint accuracy with power shots is amazing, he might be too far up in weight to have an effect. The big question I have is....Can Mayweather discourage Baldomir? If he can, he cruises in the fight...If not, Mayweather will have to be on his best game for a win.

Baldomir has a tendency to keep fights close, besides Gatti, it seems he never blows out some of the better foes on his resume. Baldomir can be outboxed, but can Mayweather do enough damage early and box the full distance if need be?

Mayweather, 36-0, will be entering just his third fight at welterweight. His best weight class was 17-lbs south at super-featherweight. He does have two solid wins over Sharmba Mitchell and Judah, but both guys are actually jr. welterweights posing as welterweights....kinda like Mayweather is doing.

Mayweather's game plan is to come into this fight in the best possible shape he can. Mayweather always trains his *** off and leaves nothing outside the ring. He will also have the luxury of not having to strip weight to get to 147 like Baldomir will.

Mayweather is one of the game's best talents. He can fight inside at times and is a master of keeping distance and boxing...one of the best of our generation. Mayweather wil come into this fight in full focus and if his game is on, the fight is his to lose.

Mayweather brings his 'A' game, he wins. Baldomir brings his best and Mayweather has a semi-off night, Carlos takes 'Fighter of the Year' honors and a victory over Floyd.

With all of the hoopla surrounding Mayweather and his opponents, it's a tad crazy. Mayweather had hopes of landing Oscar De la Hoya in September and when that didn't come off, he waited until Baldomir's fight with Gatti was over to decide. This didn't prevent fans from going bananas that he might be fighting the best jr. middleweight in the world, Cory Spinks, instead of Baldomir....talk about tunnel vision.

Baldomir, at 35-years of age, could be in cash out mode. He was looking only for big fights and had no plans of taking on a softy. He's getting paid nicely for this bout with a reported $1.7 million going to him.

With Baldomir having fought his last two fights on cable TV, he's really made a name for himself and the Gatti victory will probably help sell this PPV a bit more than if he didn't fight a top name.

Baldomir is a tough guy, never been knocked out for years. But Mayweather will definitely discourage him of that by using harder, faster combinations.

Mayweather because he's too good and a lot younger. I wish Mayweather fights a good fighter like Margarito.

A real good fight. I think that Mayweather is a better boxer and will control the fight with his jab winning by unanimous decision.

A better question would be Yoseph Stalin vs Saddam Hussein.

Mayweather is pretty darned good. He also doesn't believe all of his own hype yet, either- he stays hungry. I don't think anyone out there can beat him.
