I just purchased my first condo, and for about 5 years I've been putting off buying a dog until I bought my own place. Now I got my own place I want a dog, but not a huge one, cause my condo is not that big. I went searching for a dog, and they're all really expensive or too big. Does anyone know how I can get a small-medium dog for not that much money? I already checked 1800saveapet's site and my husband doesn't like that cause they match you up with a pet. He wants to be able to choose the pet he wants. I'm located in NH. I just got a whole lotta love and I want to be able to share it. I just don't got a whole lotta money.

I love my dachshunds. They are so sweet and funny and loyal and adorable. There is probably a dachshund rescue foundation not far from you. That is always a lovely thing to do, to rescue a dog

Please, just do this one little thing, Go to this website:

If you can look at those little doll babies and not lose your heart, then you are mighty strong and powerful. I couldn't so now I have two!

http://www.petfinder.com - click "Shelter and Rescue Groups" in the upper right to find organizations near you.

Just remember that the dog itself isn't the expensive part. Taking care of the dog (food, toys, license, collar, leash, grooming, vaccinations, medical expenses) is. For example - if the dog gets sick, will you be able to afford to take him to the vet? Or will he have to suffer because you "don't got a whole lotta money"?

Check your local animal control shelter or ask around with with your local veterinarian that specializes in small animals, as sometime people bring them in and no longer want them for various reasons. And after selecting your pet, get it fixed. Your dog will be much calmer and healthier and therefor much more enjoyable. Take you time and you will make a good decision.

I would just start checking the local adoption places. They will have small dogs, big dogs, and most times it will only cost you a small fee. There are many dogs looking for homes...they might not be papered or pure bred but they need the most love of all....

I got my Chorkie (Chihuahua/Yorkie Mix) from the local animal rescue. I paid $125, but that included shots and spaying.

She is 15 weeks old and weighs 4 lbs.

Try the local pound or shelters. Check the newspapers for animals needing homes. We use 1800saveapet.com and people will just call us and we talk to them. We don't have to go through anyone else. Good luck.

http://www.puppyfinder.com/

Or I would just check your local newspaper or nearest Animal Shelter (they always have all kinds of dogs ready for a good home)

you could go to petfinder.com or go to your local pet store and ask them when they have dog adoption days....i've gotten both my dogs from those kinds of places and the people are very happy that a dog gets a home so they dont charge much
