i have to wonder if people who post things like this are really so ignorant, or if they are just trying to fan the flames..

Why is this question continually asked?
The US military has no desire to see the draft re-instituted.
The US populace has no desire to see the draft re-instituted.
The US Congress has no desire to see the draft re-instituted. There are several congressmen (liberal Democrats) who regularly introduce legislation to re-institute the draft. This is just a political stunt so they can say that such legislation is before congress. They do so with the expectation that the bill they submitted will never make it out of committee. Recently such legislation was brought before the floor of the House of Representatives for a vote. As you might imagine, it went down to defeat 400 - 3 with 32 abstentions. Even the authors and sponsors of the bill voted against it.
But while we are on the subject, how many killings has President Bush ordered?

1. The is no such thing as the draft. It is the US Selective Service System (SSS)
2. President Bush doesn't have the authority to "draft" anyone; that authority resides with the Legislative branch.
3. In 2003, 2005, and 2006 (pending) Rep Rangel (D-NY) and Sen Hollings (D-SC) introducded bills HR 163 -Rangel and SB 89 -Hollings both titled "The Universal National Service Act" that called for both men and women ages 18-26 to become eligible for the draft,
4. Both bills died in committee
5. There won't be any draft; Bush will veto any such bill
HR = House Resolution SB = Senate Bill
AGAIN, BOTH "DRAFT" BILLS WERE INTRODUCED AND SPONSORED BY DEMOCRATS

I hope so. It sure would take the strain off the military who has done back to back tours in Iraq and Afghanistan serving this great country against people who would love to destroy it. I am sure you don't believe that judging by the wording of you question. Its hard to believe people still take sides with terrorists even with all of the bombings world wide in the name of Allah against all infidels (yes that includes you). Just do some research and see what most Muslim leaders are saying about destroying the United State And spreading Islam. Unfortunately there are people still out there who's biggest fear is that they will have to go and fight for this cause. I have done two tours in Iraq myself and can assure you the military needs more people and a draft would definitely be a logical solution.

All the services are meeting their quotas so why would there be any need for a draft. Remember, it was two democrats who entered legislation a couple of years ago to reinstate the draft, not the republicans. Both bills were easily defeated.

I honestly think the draft is a thing of the past, it would be political suicide and Congress would never approve it. So, no I don't think Bush will use the draft.

Not you youth- a draft will cause the people to take to the streets; but he is using a 'back door' draft to call back retired officiers who though they were well past this. Eveni in Viet Nam, people were forced to do only one 2 year term, now its endless Where will it end

he may just draft the old, those over 70, drag them out of nursing homes and give them guns, some of those older guys are pretty tough, they've seen and done a lot. Im all for that.

Of course not. We have more than enough brave men and women who have volunteered to protect us.
The Democrats (Charles Rangel) recently proposed legislation to institute a draft and it was overwhelmingly defeated.

Yep. I hope you have your route to Canada planned out. On a serious note going to the draft would be political suicide.
