I'll use the story of Noah's Ark for an example....supposedly God told Noah to build the ark and told him the exact measuments ect. So if he could hear God speaking to him. Why can't we hear him speaking to us today. I personally have never heard of anyone who has recently heard God's voice with their ears. Maybe I'm just confused?

Well to start with Noah, was a righteous man with great faith. As was Abraham and Elijah, whom also got direct correspondence from GOD. All the other people during Noah's time as well as ours were busy partying, marrying, and conducting whatever businesses of interest to them; that they didn't feel a need to stop and listen. Just as we are today. We as people born into sin don't abide by the laws of GOD but by the laws of man. Man can't move GOD, and unfortunately we don't understand this. Jesus said, "Those who can hear hear, and those who can see see". Another reason why Jesus spoke in parables was because not everyone was meant to know or accept the Christ and what He was giving to GOD's true children.

To make it short, our faith needs to be stronger for one. GOD spoke to Noah because of his righteousness and faith and because GOD was going to destroy everyone else for their evil ways. Later on GOD sent Jesus to save those who were to become children of GOD, and all the others( athiests, Pharisees, etc) would be left to do whatever they pleased until GOD decided it was time to destroy all evil again. Just like today.

Look around, notice how the church has deteriorated with all it's scandals. Notice how more and more heinous crimes and atrocities are in the news. Notice how many wars and territories are fighting. Notice how the days seem to be flying by at a faster pace. Notice how all the evils of the world are gaining momentum. This world is that of the prince of darkness and GOD is allowing it to happen so that scriptures can be fulfilled just as had to happen when Jesus was crucified.

Hope that wasn't too long.

There is a big difference between hearing and listening!

Hear means to perceive (sound) by the ear.

Listen means to make an effort to hear something: listen to the radio; listening for the bell.

So while many people perceive a sound...they don't make the effort to listen.

Taking it even further would be to carry it out what God is telling you. So there is a lot involved in listening to God. Noah carried it out as your example states. Most people hear, few people listen and even fewer carry out what God asks of us.

Many Blessings

it's true noah did hear God's voice. So did Adam, Eve, Moses, and some others. But now we have the scriptures and in there God tells us all we need to know to survive. With the ones he spoke to there were reasons. Adam and Eve had a personal relationship with God and was able to speak with Him personally hear His voice...until they disobeyed Him. With Noah God spoke to him for his survival and the same with Moses. Now we need to listen to what He is telling us in the scriptures, so that we may do our best to live on this Earth when it becomes a paradise, which will be in His own due time. If you want to know more just contact me and I will show you using your own Bible. Hoped this helped you.

They never could.
It's just like people today say that God talks to them, but when you ask how he talks they make it clear that they are really talking about something else that they are just intrepreting as God . . . Like they hear the wind blowing through the trees and interpreted that as God saying his spirit is with them or whatever. And I'm willing to bet it was the same for all the prophets. What they thought was God was only in their minds.

As for Noah, that is just an old myth.

Why is it that when you talk to God it is called prayer, but if God talks to you it is a mental illness?

The belief has it that when God created Adam and Eve, people were close to being angels. Then the Satan drew people farther and farther from God, and in the time of New Testament not only stopped talking people, he stopped hearing people! Until a person's death, the God does not do "active personal review" of that person, only through saints who listen people and care about them

Forever_Lost,
I think what you mean is that you cannot hear Him.

"Maybe I'm just confused?"
I think so.

Here's a clue from the scriptures:
(Psalm 19)
The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.
2 Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.
3 There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.
4 Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun,
5 Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race.
6 His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.
7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.

If you get yourself away from the hustle and bustle, and pray to Him, take your time, He will make Himself known. According to the scriptures, "Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge."

Remember faith? He does speak and He answers all of your concerns that you address to Him.

Well, I think I remember reading that His voice would instantly kill us, but I can't remember where in the bible it says that. Maybe He didn't speak directly to Noah, maybe He did what He usually did, used an angel to communicate for Him. Anyway, I don't know why He doesn't communicate with us anymore, maybe we're just not worthy or maybe the time for prophets is past.

Throughout history, God has chosen prophets, such as Noah, Abraham, Moses, and others, to teach the gospel and direct His Church (Amos 3:7). It is no different today. We all need God’s guidance in a world that is sometimes confusing. Because God loves His children, He continues to send living prophets. Joseph Smith (1805–44) was the first prophet of our time. Gordon B. Hinckley is God’s chosen prophet today.

Just as God led the Israelites out of slavery and to a better place through His prophet Moses, He leads His children today into happier, more peaceful lives when they choose to follow His living prophet. We invite you to listen to the words of living prophets and consider how knowing God’s will can benefit your life.

God is a loving Father in Heaven who reveals His will to His children. He is not silent.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is led by revelation from God to a living prophet, who receives God’s word just as Abraham, Moses, Peter, and other ancient prophets and apostles did.

Parents can receive inspiration from God in raising their families.
Individuals can receive divine inspiration to help them meet personal challenges.

You don't hear the Lord's voice in your ears as you would hear another human being talking to you. You hear the Lord in your spirit which is down in your upper chest, not your head. The Lord does not speak loudly, but in a still small voice.

Maybe God doesn't want to do it anymore. Maybe in these modern days once someone says he is hearing the voice of God, paramedics will suggest 50-51 and they will bring him to the hospital because they cannot make diagnosis to your condition. Maybe God is afraid he will just be causing more miseries to those he wants to be chosen because even if you see a large crowd of people inside the churches, temples, mosque and synagogues they tend more to be looking for financial wealth and influence as a form of blessings, He sees more of us sowing hatred to one another, more and He sees our individualistic nature as in all by myself, all for myself. There are times we do something good because we just want to be seen and recognized not because it needs to be done.
But wait a minute...don't you think He talked with you to ask this question so that we too could make some reflections?
