Larry Holmes, an underrated heavyweight champion who had the best jab I ever saw.

Marvin Hagler, may be the toughest fighter I ever saw. He got screwed over because he wasn't a glamourous fighter. His first bid for the middleweight title ended in a draw even though Vito Antofuerno looked like he got hit by a truck. His last fight against Sugar Ray Leonard was travesty with Leonard winning an undeserved decision.

Esubio Pedroza was featherweight champion in the late 70's, early 80's. He was tough and won without making it look very difficult.

Tough question to answer....there have been so many greats.
James Braddock played by Russell Crowe in the movie "Cinderella Man" was supposedly the hardest man to beat according to Joe Louis (Brown Bomber) he also said Braddock was the bravest man he had ever known.
Sugar Ray Robinson was Ali's favorite and hero.
Jack Dempsey was virtually un-stoppable..
Ali had probably the best style of any heavy weight....
Mike Tyson was the best knockout artist...
Lennox Lewis was one of the all time best technicians according to Ali, George Foreman and Mike Tyson.
But hey these are all heavy weights....
My final answer for heavy weights would have to be ...
Cassius Clay....Lennox Lewis....Jack Johnson(almost bare knuckles era) their gloves were nothing like todays.

John Heenan, John L. Sullivan and Jack Dempsey! Well, you did say, "ever". John Heenan was in his prime in the 1860's and married lovely Adah Isaacs Mencken, a daring stage actress (there were no other types) who is said to've appeared nude in the play "Mazeppa". He was the USA champion, but British champs were recognized as world champs. John fought British champ Tom sayer in one of the classic bouts of all time. Are you familiar with London Prize Ring Rules? If not, I'll say boxers wore no gloves, a round lasted until someone was knocked down and a bout continued until one boxer was unable to "toe the mark", even if it took all day. The bout between Heenan and Sayer was a long one. It was stopped when neither man was able to continue. Heenan's hands were too badly damaged to punch any longer, and Sayer's eyes were swollen shut, so that he couldn't see how to fight. John L. Sullivan was the last heavyweight champ under London Prize ring rules and the first under Marquess of Queensberry rules. His style was "Give & Take", i.e. he gave out more punishment than any opponent could endure and could take anything his foes threw at him. Jack Dempsey had the strongest killer instinct of any boxer. Huge Jess Willard claimed Dempsey wore loaded gloves when Jack beat 6' 5.3" Jess to a pulp. This is one of many wild tales in boxing. I think any of these three boxers listed in his prime could disprove Cassius Clay's shameless boasts about being "The Greatest".
