hi how can i upgrade my sons pc which is windows 98 to windows xp without paying out

It would be easier to get a new laptop or desktop. You have to upgrade 98 to 2000 and from 2000 to XP. A really expensive thing. You can get some good prices from Dell and HP and the monthly financing is not too shabby. I got a $1200 laptop with all the bells and whistles for $35/month

BTW, Here's the list of MINIMUM System Requirements for Windows XP

As you'll notice, most any computer that came with Windows 98 doesn't meet the requirements and IF they do, they BARELY do..

By the time you bought Windows XP Home Edition and bought the necessary hardware upgradews, you could buy a WHOLE NEW system cheaper WITH Windows XP already installed.

You probably shouldn't.

XP can cause a lot of problems when installed on an old pc.

Best thing to do is purchase a new computer - I've seen Dell selling them at $299.

You'll save money in the long run.

not by any legal means, unless you happen to have an extra copy of XP sitting around somewhere.
