Sure, but hint around first and make sure she'd really like one.

it would only be a good idea if she actually wanted one.
Sadly too many cats and dogs are given as presents and they were not really wanted. They either get abandoned or taken to a shelter and thats so not fair on the animal. Its not its fault.
Before getting a kitten for your mum you should really ask her if she would like one. I know it takes the surprise away but what would happen if she didnt want it?
After all Kittens are expensive
Vaccinations
Neutering
Other vet bills
Food
Litter & Tray
Bowls
Grooming brushes
Toys
etc the list can go on.
Personally i wouldnt give a pet as a present (Espeacially if they dont even know you are thinking of getting one)

Kitten, cats, puppies, dogs, bunnies and other living beings are not something you buy for a present. All these animals require a commitment by their owner as to their health, feeding, medical care etc.
By all means take your mother to a shelter to pick out a pet, get counseling on how to take care of it. etc. A lot of the fun and pleasure of taking on these responsibilities is in choosing one that seems to respond to you best, is the most pleasing to you in its looks, etc. Your mother should have the chance to make her own choice. You can pay the adoption fees and then it could be a good birthday present.

I think they are a wonderful gift.. just choose wisely avoid pet store ones they are not treated very well and are generally sickly. There are plenty of people giving away or selling kittens.. if you want one with a good disposition avoid ones that have not had much human contact.

well, it would be a good idea as long as she likes cats and as long as she wants the responsiblility of a cat...People think pets are great gifts and they can be, but then the reponsibility of taking care of them sets in and then they become unwanted and abandoned or sent to shelters....
So, before you get her one, just be sure she would really WANT one (not just that she thinks they are adorable).
Or maybe just take her to a shelter or a breeder and tell her that she can have a kitty for her birthday and let her pick it out. Then you would know if it would work.
Good Luck!

get the kitten, some food, a couple of balls for the kitten to play and the litter box. That way, you'll give her the full combo so she can't refuse!

Umm presents that someone has to take care of is never really a good idea. Unless you have heard your mom actually say she would like a cat.
Nice thought though.

Yep, if she likes them. Also, make sure she has extra spare time during the day. If she doesnt, then a pet is just a burden. Also, make sure she is not alergic. And, make sure she doesnt have fish that she holds dear to her heart, the fish may go byby.
Good Luck!!

yes it sounds like a very good idea if you are a very responsible person then yes get it but if you already have enough things to do in your life then maybe you should wait for the right moment to get it and believe me you will know when that comes

Only if you will get a litter box, play toys, a cat bed, and a carrying case (for trips to the vet).
