some people eat because they are depressed. So if you eat too much then it can be a reason. You should try to talk to someone-i'm sure your Dr. can recommend someone-and try to find the source of why you have these feelings.

Christina I believe that you are truly depressed and need to see a counselor or therapist or your reg. doc. Your symptoms are very neg. Take your drawing with you and show the doc what you have been doing. You do get overweight when depressed. You are either eating unhealthy, or overeating, and/or not getting exercise. I know these things because I have depression also. Without having God, I would have fallen into the same dark, negative existence that you are experiencing. I will pray for you to get help soon! Follow the doc's directions and take care of yourself. You are a great person!! Not being able to do math well has nothing to do with the depression but you are figuring out things to beat yourself up about. You will have a boyfriend when you are more positive and feeling great again.Your dignity will also return. Best wishes! If you need to talk contact me.

Have you ever read "Make the Connection" by Oprah Winfrey? She talks about how she ate when she was stressed, ate when she was depressed, ate when she was bored, etc. So there's definitely a psychological link between eating and depression for some people. If you're worried about depression, you should talk to your doctor about seeing a psychiatrist, or, in the alternative, you could talk to a school counselor or someone at the local church. No shame in seeking help for depression -- sometimes you think all you need to do is "snap out of it" but you just can't. Take care of you -- can't count on anyone else to do it for you. Good luck!

I think depression is caused by being overweight and being overweight is caused by depression.

For the last 2 years I have been both and wish I could change, my doctor has put me on anti depressants and I am not sure if they work. I have no self confidence or dignity and do not like myself in the last 2 years.

There are many reasons that you could be suffering from depression. Sometimes it is thought to be hereditary, and it can also be physiological. I am overweight and I have Diabetes. When you have diabetes your body does not produce Seratonin, a neuotransmitter that plays a role in the regulation of depression, among other functions. Taking antidepressants has changed my life dramatically, for the better. You might want to discuss what you believe to be depression with your doctor.

Your weight would not physiologically cause your depression, unless the weight gain and depression are both secondary to another disease, such as a thyroid disorder. Unhappiness with your weight, however, may cause the psychological side-effect of depression. It's important for you to realize that you are one of God's children, and you are beautiful both inside and out. If you're unhappy with your weight, only you can change it. Pray, eat better, and exercise. You'll not only look great, but you'll feel better too. As far as your math skills - some of us have talents have others don't. So math may not be for you - so what. Can you sing, draw, or are you a history buff? Toughen up, butter-cup - you're beautiful, and sometimes it takes proving to others.

I do think that if you are not happy with yourself, for sure it can cause depression. seek a doctor out right away before it gets out of control. They most likely will start with a mild anti depressant, as you feel better about yourself, you may see that the weight will start to go down. Good luck.

Being overweight is a symptom. I myself am and I am depressed. But I was depressed before I put on the pounds. Also, depression can be caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain and many foods or food ingredients such as caffeine, fatty and such can contribute to the imbalance.

I think its the other way around.Being overweight may cause one to be depressed.Hang in their kiddo, everyone has obstables to overcome in their life.Trust me I am currently involved in a huge situation that has altered my life forever. And they wear you down sometimes. But I also know that an encouraging word can make a difference and help to start the progression of moving forward. You have more than you think.Stay busy if you are able.It will help with both situations.
