I believe depression can have one or two variations. One is there is unbalance in the genetic makeup of a person and this could be controlled, indefinitely, with the proper analysis and prescription. The second one is either self induced or induced by another person's actions toward you, or a circumstance, either self imposed or another person imposing upon you a circumstance you have no control over. I have had number 2. Another person hurt me deeply with their actions. That was hard to absorb. Couldn't' sleep, couldn't eat (good diet), episodes of anxiety, no patience, etc. You know the story. I found out my survival was in spirituality. There is a higher power, mine being God, good friends who understood and stuck with me throughout the experience, and the desire not to be depressed. You can, through the correct guidance, overcome depression that has been imposed upon you. You have to really want to get well. If you can do this you will become stronger, both mentally and physically. But, believe me, once you attain this hurdle we are given another one, but we can handle it. Good luck. I'm assuming your question is brought about by something personal. I truly wish you well.

There is a common misconception that Stress is the same as depression, we all say at some point "Im depressed" but what we actually mean is that we are stressed. And as life can generally be a bit of a biatch, we will all continue to suffer from stress at some point but it is how we deal with all those lovely little life events that prevent us from having a mental collapse. Clinical depression on the other hand is something that can be managed but as far as im aware not many people become cured.

Absolutlely depends on the individual. If it's reactive depression, ie something that was triggered by something that happened like abuse or an attack, then in time with the correct treatment (whether that's medication, counselling or a combination) it can go away.

Even if depression is with you for the long term, then it can be managed and you can live with it - but if you're on meds that aren't working for you, you HAVE to let the Dr know. Trial and error to find the right drugs can be hard and a bit of a roller coaster but worth it if you can find the meds that can help you to function normally.

omg most of you don't know what you are talking about, you can't cure depression i wish you could. All you can do is alleviate the bad feelings. with any luck you will have some periods of no depression than all of sudden something will change diet, circumstances, brain chemical due to other things. Then you will be saying welcome back to good old depression. I hate to tell you the truth but that is it. you want the hard facts speak to somebody who knows what they are talking about not on here. Or if you do get a second opinion.

It depends on what is causing the depression - some are cause by a problem in the brain and some medications do help - but normally depression is not cured - it is helped with medication and counseling. GOOD LUCK!@

Some depressions are caused by outside events and these will at some point go away and life will resume as normal.

Other depressions are chemical based and then medication is needed.

Depression comes and goes. Depending upon how long it has lasted, you should probably consult with your doctor about it. Depression can have harmful health affects on you and without proper treatment can even lead to death.
