It's me AGAIN LOL. My vet finally called me back and said for me to just sit and wait. He also assured me that even though today is her 55th day, that her pups could survive if she ends up having them today.

I just wiped my mini dach's rear with tissue, and her discharge is pee colored and slimy/stringy. She isn't producing any milk yet, so I'm wondering if the milk has to come in before she can go into labor??

My vet said to use a hot water bottle on her swollen vulva.Anyone ever heard of that before?

I just got done making her a bed with old sheets and towels inside a big sturdy box with the end open, and put her in it and laid down beside her, but she got out of it and went under my bed. How can I show her that I want her to have her pups in the bed I made for her? Or should I just let her have them wherever she chooses?

Thanks to All in advance!!

You will have a huge mess under your bed, that will be hard to get the smell out..and you can't be there to help her if she needs you..so, get her out, any way you can, and put her in a bed in a secluded corner..No, haven't heard of the hot water thing..sho knoows..lol
the discharge is a sign that she is getting ready..milk doesn't alsway come in befor birthing, sometimes the hormones produced during labor are needed to make it come in..Just in case, and especially if the dog is young, get the puppy supplement to have on hand...I am thinking that this is early labor, and she has a couple of days to go..

One of my dogs had pups 10 days ago and in the morning, she didn't have any milk, and didn't look like she would have milk for awhile. I took her to the vet because she was overdue and wasn't acting right. He was worried about her too, specailly since there was no milk. She had 5 pups that night and all did well, her milk came in just fine and her and the pups are doing great. Sometimes the milk just does not come down until the pups are born.

The milk does not come in until right after the pups are born.. well actually a day or two, the first day its colostrum, mine wouldnt stay in the whelping box either, but watch her, if she has the first one in the box she will stay(or you can put it in the box)

before the pups are born and keep her in the box before you go to bed
