You should ask your bf/the guy your dating to go shopping with you to help you buy him a present. Or you can both buy one present and put your both your names on it. If you don't want to bring a present, then it's always nice to bring some food to the party...perhaps home baked cookies or some lemonade/punch. I think you should ask your guy about his dad, what kinda work he does, what are his hobbies, what foods does he like and etc...and based off of that buy him something.
I noticed many people say gift card...and to be honest I think that is totally impersonal, and would not impress the dad. I think you need to ask your guy to see pictures of his father, look at the way the guy dresses, then ask your guy about what he is like and see if you can buy a present that matches his personality. Also, find out if he drinks wines, beers, or another form of liquor...and if so maybe you can get him a nice alcohol beverage set from beverages and more. Alcohol is a bit personal, so its important to know his father's taste...I recommend that you ask your guy about his dad and then ask him to come shopping with you and pick out something that will impress his father. Like if his dad is a big bbq type of guy and has a nice grill outside then maybe you can buy his dad some great bbq tools and stuff from stores like brookstone.

I would get a decent card, ask your bf what kind of things his dad likes & then get something that can be from the both of you. If you & the guy haven't been dating long then just get a card if you feel you need to get something...I don't think anyone is going to expect you to bring anything though. I didn't bring anything when I had met my ex's dad (& the rest of his family) on father's day & they still liked me just the same.

I would ask my boyfriend what his father is like and then get something that fits what I have been told. If he doesn't really talk about his dad and doesn't answer the question, then I would go with something very practical. Or you could play it safe and get him a gift card to a resturant or shop. Typically children follow after their parents in food likes so where your boyfriend likes to eat may be a good place to get a gift card too.

Ask your bf what he likes or what stores he shops at. A giftcard is a good way to go, it's a nice thought and then he can pick what he wants. Maybe get a gift card to Best Buy - what man doesn't like going to there?

Bring a card...but stay away from the "funny" ones, as you don't know his sense of humor. No one expects you to bring a present. In fact, they will probably think you're great because you brought a card!
Good luck!

Ask the guy you're dating about his Dad's likes/dislikes. A good gift is a good foot in the door, when it comes to parents of bf/gf's,....
