It's because like any cult there is a set of rules that a ton of people follow. Anytime a bunch of people follow a set of rules that are there for no other purpose than because a "higher being" told them not to, makes it seem like the people are being brainwashed.

Not brainwashed. Let people have their own individual faith. Some one somewhere is always going to have a problem with someone else's religion. I am a Christian but I don't think athiests, agnostics, muslim, etc are any more or less brainwashed than I am. We're all people and we think differently. I see people everyday that jump all over Christians for every thing in the book but can't see that they are doing the same things and just calling it standing up for their beliefs. And I see Christians everyday who want to dog everyone else for not believing the same...as anyone can see that accomplishes nothing. Each person has their own faith and way of thinking. How about eveyrbody just showing some love every once in a while?

Case in point: the word "Allah" means "God" in Arabic. Just like the word "Dios" means "God" in spanish.
This person "Allah" is the *EXACT SAME GOD* as the Christian God. The only difference between Christians and Islamic people is that
A) Christians say Mohammed was not a prophet
B) Muslims say Jesus was not a prophet.
C) Muslims agree that JESUS was HOLY and a Good Man of Heaven.
D) Christians believe "Islam" is a satanic religion.
So, to recap: Christians are stupid and brainwashed because they refuse to look past their bigotry, and generally lack any ability to understand anything b/c they have been told since birth NOT to try to understand anything. Christians are sheep, in the stupid moronic kind of way.

all Christians aren't brainwashed but if u listen to what some people have to say it would seem that way, because they talk about their religion without really understanding it, and expect others to believe in only what they say or believe.
that's not just a problem with Christianity honey, it's like that in any religion where the person is ignorant and /or intolerant.

But telling people to blow up abortion clinics is OK?
Of course christians are brainwashed.
It is obvious that the bible was written thousands of years ago when a good grasp of our planet was not available to everyone. We were lost for decades upon decades. It took until the year 1600 for people to figure out the sun is the centre of our solar system, and not the earth. Do you think that the writers of the bible really understood the beginnings of the universe?
People were simple goat herders back then. They couldn't read or write, and struggled with every day things like "where does the light go when it's dark" and "what's this red stuff coming out of my arm" If they couldn't figure out what to do with their bodily fluids, do you really think that they have the keys to enlightenment?
In order to appease the goat herders, a series of books were written letting people know that "it's ok, we have all the answers right here, go back to goat herding".
Thousands of years later, we have a much better understanding of our planet, so it is easy to see that the bible is full of bronze age mythology and figurative language trying to explain the every day. Not only that, it is not considered AT ALL to be historically accurate. Archeologists do not consider the bible to be a trustworthy source of information.
Have you actually taken the time to read the bible, cover to cover numerous times, or are you just relying on what a preacher/mom and dad told you?
The bible is full of the most horrendous verses describing or advocating suicide, incest, bestiality, sadomasochism, sexual activity in a violent context, murder, morbid violence, use of drugs or alcohol, homosexuality, voyeurism, revenge, undermining of authority figures, lawlessness, and human rights violations and atrocities.
But beyond the language and themes that don't matter a whit to western society thousands of years later, the sheer mass of contradictions and errors is outstanding. Plus there is absolutely no consensus whatsoever (and has never been a consensus) on how to properly read the bible.
Some passages are figurative, some are literal, BUT WHICH ONES? There are over 30,000 different christian organizations. If they, and all the theologians cannot decide on how to fully interpet the bible, how are you supposed to?
Many people I know say "I believe in god, but I don't believe Noah's ark, etc." Or "I believe in god, but I don't agree with this passage or that, etc."
These are not christians. And neither are you if you believe similarly. christianity is built around the bible and you must believe in the whole thing, you cannot pick and choose laws and verses.
"we are all atheists when it comes to belief in Zeus or Thor, christians just believe in one more god than the rest of us"-Richard Dawkins
Take the time to do an intelligent critique of the book. And you'll see it for exactly what it is...
A book intended to control the goat herders.
Don't go back to your goats.

Hmm. The dark ages and the conquering of central america by christians comes to mind. Didn't they kill everyone that didn't convert? No? Then why are most people in latin america highly devout christians and not practicing their ancient religions (I am referring to the Aztecs, Mayans and Incas for those historically retarded people).
Christians are equally brainwashed and arrogant as muslims and jews.

No god just tells you to in his word the bible it's just you aren't told about that bit, yet. It's in there somewhere. You are brainwashed as you have faith. Faith is a form of brainwashing you believe something because you are told to and if you are told it enough you have faith in it and despite what can be proven to be true and contradictory to what you have faith in you stick with that faith. That is why you are brainwashed. Say no to jesus

I don't think anyone is brainwashed, that's going too far. I wouldn't say that. But I don't agree with you either. There are many groups of angry and hateful people in the world today and you should get used to hearing mean and unjust things.

Brainwashed is the definition of having faith, dear. It just doesn't sound as nice. The people that have brainwashed you don't want to call it that.
It all makes sense, if you can allow your thoughts to expand out a bit. Picture yourself from our perspective, if you're able...

Dear Chocolate,
Well, don't feel hurt by such words about "brainwashing".
- Christianity is not considered as sect;
- Christianity is not full of fanatics.
So: not-fundy Christians aren't considered as brainwashed people, but as more or less tolerant Humans.
That's all.
