59 (any birthday over 40, really) makes a woman think about her impending mortality. Get her something that reminds her of her youth, or which really celebrates her life as it is now..maybe a nice framed picture of your family? If she's done something really momentous (maybe she went back to school and got her degree), frame that? Maybe do a mini scrapbook of memories that you specifically cherish with her?--If you don't have specific photos, symbolic pictures/items (ticket stubs for that play you were in that she made all the costumes for, or a picture of similar costumes or something), a picture of your dog that she got you...whatever. Make it personal, and let it know that you value HER--not some woman who's turning 59.

~It's obvious that you have a close relationship with your mother. You wait until the day of her birthday to think about what to get her. If you have to ask what to get her, you haven't spent much time paying attention to her or you would know what she likes, what she needs, what she yearns for.

Instead of wondering what I got my mother on her 59th birthday, how about spending some time with your own mother. My mom was very happy and surprised by her 59th birthday presents.

I'd try and gather pics from her younger years and make her a scrapbook or if you have time take a favorite photo and have it made into a cake top..I've seen cakes that they take a photo and use that as the decoration for the top of the cake... or make her a nice dinner or take her out to a fun restaurant then to mini-golf...

I probably would pay for my mom to take a trip or send her to a nice play on Broadway. My mom likes to travel and enjoys cultural activities. Setting up a trip to someplace she always says she's going to visit one day, would be an ultimate surprise.

Why do people wait until the last min. to get someone something for their B-Day. Why bother. They must not mean very much to ya other wise you would of put more thought into it and already had something for her.
