...when you refuse to argue with them?
I can't count the number of arguements I've had that went like this:
"Homosexuality is a sin!"
"That's your belief, not mine."
"How can you not believe it? The bible says so."
"The bible is the basis of your faith, not mine."
"You should read the bible before you dismiss it!"
"I have read the bible. I don't believe in it."
"If you don't believe in the bible, you're going to hell!"
"That's your belief, not mine."
"But... but... I know I'm right! *whinewhine*"
"That's your belief, not mine."
Why do you think they get so upset when I do this?

They honestly believe that if everyone heard about Jesus, everyone would believe in him. They cannot conceive of someone seriously considering Christianity, and rejecting it on rational grounds. Their anger is a defense mechanism which shields them from having to reconsider how strong their own faith is. They have to demonize you, because if a sensible and reasonable person can consider the available evidence and conclude that Jesus isn't god, then they'd have to think twice, but they can't do that because they don't want to think.

I wrote a little philosophy that goes like this -
People tend to believe that things are the way that they think they shoud be, rather than the way they really are.
I since have been told that somebody else already wrote something similar, but I like mine, because it is mine.
Most people have no idea and just parrot what they have been taught by other non-thinking parrots who was taught by another non thinking parrot, etc.etc, etc.
My question is why folks think they have to have an answer, when the truth is that there are so many things that we dont know and can not even comprehend - there is nothing wrong with simply saying "I dont know" or my opinion is...........

They get upset for the same reason you get upset when someone insists that you shouldn't believe what they believe. No one should assume that you believe in the Bible. There are some misguided people of faith out there.
Just like there are fundamentalist Christians, there are fundamentalist agnostics, athiests, non-believers. We all have faith in something, even if it's nothing but ourselves. Some of us have found faith in something more that has changed our lives for the better. Sorry for wanting to share happiness with you.

You answered your own question here.....it's because they are naturally argumentative. I happen to be a Christian. I also know that not everybody is, and everybody has a right to their own beliefs. As a Christian, all I'm suppose to do is tell you the truth as I see it. If you can't or won't believe that, I'm only to love you and tolerate your beliefs. I'm not suppose to beat you over the head with my views, and I'm not suppose to drag you kicking and screaming to the altar for baptism. I am not to judge, that's up to God.

Well i don't agree with your opinion (spelled right) about Christianity, but hey, I agree you have the right to disagree! You have my enthusiastic support! More importantly, Fundies (I always thought that was edible underwear myself) anger me way too often and therefore you get my applause.
OH! I forgot the answer to the question!!! Because it is impossible for them to acknowledge that somebody might view their religion differently than them, so adamant is their faith. Technically, as a Christian they also forget it is the Lords place to judge, not theirs.

Probably because they know you're getting pleasure out of the exchange ;) Because they can't fashion an argument that would require anything less than blind faith on your part? I don't know why they get their panties in a knot about it either, their ideology is the prevailing faith in our society... Some opposition will do them some good.

They are so steeped in their beliefs that when someone challenges them it becomes a personal attack by default... the only way they know how to respond is to insult you back with the threat of damnation.

It's probably because they care about you.
The thing is, it's not "That's your belief, not mine" that you should be saying, you should say something more like "I don't want to believe that even if it's true."
What will you tell God on judgment day? "That's your belief, not mine."?
I don't think that's gonna fly.

They're used to being able to get away with bullying everyone else around with their psychotic nonsence. They feel threatened when you don't cave to them.
