Everyone wants to be right and sees everyone else's beliefs as wrong. Who wants to be found in the wrong? Talking about religion ususally causes arguments....look at the way some people on here get. Not all people argue about it thiough, just some. Also when someone on here asks an honest question sometimes they are answered with some harsh words by others. So those things could make people uncomfortable.

I don't think all people get uncomfortable when discussing religion. But a majority do. There may be several reasons.
Religion, by its nature is a sort of subject which brings up and puts to test our deepest convictions. So what we believe in, is a reflection of our temperament, attitude and intellect. In short, it reflects our personality. And also of those people who share our beliefs and for whom we may have deep respect. So when we discuss religion, we lay bare ourselves in a way.
In such a circumstance, when someone rejects our beliefs, or worse attacks it, most of us would consider it as an attack on our ego at the least, and at worse, an attempt to turn our entire emotional world upside down. And this a what causes us to act in unpleasant ways. Also to change our religious views would mean to change our world view. Not very easy for most people, especially if they are older. And you cannot bring in logic and reason into argument because for many (but not all) deeply religious people, faith (by which they mean blind faith) is more important than reason and logic which they have rejected.
And if a religion spares no effort convert others to its own faith rejecting all the followers of other faiths as heretics or infidels, that makes it even worse. For it truly becomes a matter of survival of their way of life for those whom they are trying to convert.
But discussions on religion need not always be this way. All we have to do is to accept the inherent diversity among human personalities and tendencies, and so in their beliefs. And tolerate alternative opinions and STOP trying to impose our ideology upon others.

Because everyone has a different opinion of how to worship and even some people in the same religion have different opinions of how to worship, in many instances people have come to the point of argueing or they have had someone around them that kept preaching to them and they refused this persons message. Some times people take it that if you refuse what they say then its like you refuse them. Keep an open mind and allow others to have opinions, as that is hard for many people.

This one is easy!!! because the mass majority of people don'tknow even the true fundamentals of their own Religion, nevermind trying to comprehend the opposing points of someone elses. My religion is right, yours is wrong.

Myself as a learning Christian, I have learned that it's not about a 'religion' but it is about having a meaningful, personal relationship with the spirit of Jesus. from the little I know about Hebrews, they are supposed to be serving God, not the religion.

it is God's Word, not the Religions

i am very comfortable when debating on religeon.. i am not religeous though so maybe it is harder for the other side..

i think whenver a "discussion" of religeon takes place the other side is always in panic that its opposers will askor bring up a point that cannot be refruted.. as this is a common fear for any debate/discussion ..

Because if someone says something 'wrong' or misleading, a religious person might get defensive.

It's either that, or people just don't like talking about God, because people believe in all kinds of Gods.

Because they aren't all that close to God just yet so it's hard to get into a convo with his name in it.. and following your own heart for so long and then all of a sudden you get asked about religion is really scary for most people.. and other people just don't believe in God himself
