what the average epa (miles per gallon) for a car made in the past few years?

First epa stands for enviromental protection agency. MPG stand for miles per gallon. The EPA requires new car manufacturer to estimate the average MPG so that car buyers can be informed.
The averages, which are very rough, are:
4cyl. cars = 30-40
6cyl. cars = 20-30
8cyl. cars = 10-20

That would be meaningless.

Average a Hummer with a VW and you get a Durango. You need to specify a class of vehicle.
