This St. Benard is 3 yrs. old. I thought I was on good terms with him since he was a puppy. I petted him and he looked at me with foggy eyes and lunghed to bite me. I was lucky to get off with a bruse and broken skin. 2 Days later he bit my daughters hand and broke a bone. He came aFTER HER TO GET HER.

One of my friends had a Bulldog who was diagnosed with Rage Syndrome. Unfortunately, I don't know a lot about it, but the dog used to get very strange look in its eyes before it attacked. She tried everything to keep this dog. She used to breed and show dogs, used to travel all over the country as a judge in shows, and is one of the most responsible people I know. When I say this dog attacked, it was an all out attack. She did her research and bought the dog from a respectable breeder as a puppy. It was given the best care, well-socialized, obedience trained, the works. There was no logical reason for him to act like he did. The attacks were totally without warning. He was like a time bomb. She had him check by vets, tried medication, everything. Finally, she had to put him to sleep. He had attacked several family members. It was horrible, but he was dangerous.

I don't know if this is the case with the dog you are talking about, but I would never, ever trust this dog. I'm not saying this dog has the problem I described, but something is wrong. He needs to have a thorough vet exam and go from there. I hope the circumstances wouldn't be the same as my friend's, but a problem like this with a dog that size is very serious.

Good luck.

the foggy eyes are a conditon in older dogs...(in my book the desription is cloudy, but same difference)
the dog can't see very well and might think you're a stranger
it's hard to tell on the internet

Take him to a vet, it sounds like a medical condition, do it immediately before anyone else is hurt and it's more serious.
